DONALD ALAN WILLIAMSON

Lt Col Donald A. Williamson, 83, passed away October 15, 2021, in Louisville, KY. Donald was born July 17, 1938, in Beaumont, Texas

to the late Carmen Alan and Edna Joe Williamson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Williamson. He is survived by his two daughters, Donna Michele Stevens and Dana Ellen Breer; sister Ann Turner; and five grandchildren, Sidney Stevens, Sam Stevens, Summer Stevens, Austin Breer and Joshua Breer. Don joined the National Guard as a 17-year-old high school student and graduated from Carthage High School in 1956. He went on to graduate from Texas A&M University in 1961. He also received a masters degree from the University of Georgia in 1972.

Don spent 23 years on active duty in the United States Army. He commanded a tank company at Fort Hood, Texas as well as another tank company in Germany. He served two tours in Vietnam. Don received many awards such as the Bronze Star Medal with Valor as well as two Purple hearts.

Don and his family moved to Las Vegas in 1980 to finish out his career. Don was one of a handful of United States Army Liaison officers whose primary responsibility was facilitating communications between the Air Force and Army. He retired from the military on February 1, 1985 as a Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Williamson then became a teacher and taught Nevada History and went on to become a Dean and later became an Assistant Principal before retiring for good from the Clark County School District in 2008.

Don may have had a tough exterior but he was very compassionate and generous and had a "warped sense of humor" as his wife used to say. He loved to ride horses, shoot skeet, play Bridge and of course, watch Aggie football. Don and Barbara moved to Louisville, KY in March 2016 to be closer to their daughter, Donna.
