UNR rides two TDS on defense to victory

RENO — Brandon Talton kicked a 45-yard field goal with three seconds left for UNR, which had two defensive touchdowns in its 27-24 win over San Jose State on Saturday.

Linebacker Daiyan Henley returned a fumble 56 yards for a TD to put the Wolf Pack (7-2, 4-1 Mountain West) up 7-0, and cornerback Berndale Robins’ 86-yard interception return for a score gave UNR a 14-7 third-quarter lead.

Nick Starkel threw for 255 yards and three TDS for the Spartans (5-5, 3-3), including a 48-yarder to wide receiver Malikhi Miller late in the third quarter and a tying 2-yarder to tight end Derrick Deese Jr. with 1:47 left.

SATURDAY LATE GAMES

Tyler Nevens ran for 116 yards on 14 carries and had a 5-yard TD catch for SJSU, and wide receiver Jermaine Braddock had seven catches for 140 yards.

Carson Strong threw for 314 yards and a TD with two interceptions for the Wolf Pack, who were outgained 449367 in yards of offense.

Strong found wide receiver Melquan Stovall for a 12-yard gain on fourthand-9 to keep alive UNR’S final drive.

■ San Diego State 17, Hawaii 10: At Honolulu, Greg Bell and Jack Browning each had a first-half TD run for the Aztecs (8-1, 4-1 Mountain West), who didn’t trail. Linebacker Isaiah Tufaga recovered a fumble at the SDSU 19 in the first quarter that set up the lone TD by the Rainbow Warriors (4-6, 1-4), who held a 260-227 edge in yards of offense.

■ Arizona State 31, Southern California 16: At Tempe, Ariz., Rachaad White ran for 202 yards and three TDS for the Sun Devils (6-2, 4-1 Pac-12), who overcame three turnovers. The Trojans (4-5, 3-3) mustered 65 yards of offense in the first half but trailed only 14-10 at intermission.

■ No. 16 Texas-san Antonio 44, Texas-el Paso 23: At El Paso, Texas, Frank Harris threw for 286 yards and two TDS and ran for two scores for the Roadrunners (9-0, 4-0 Conference USA), one of four unbeaten Football Bowl Subdivision teams. The Miners (6-3, 3-2) had won six straight home games.
