Monk shines in overtime, helps lift Lakers past Heat

LOS ANGELES — Malik Monk scored five of his season-high 27 points in overtime, and the Los Angeles Lakers rallied from a big deficit in the final minutes of regulation before surging in overtime for a 120-117 victory over the Miami Heat on Wednesday.

Russell Westbrook had 25 points, 14 assists and 12 rebounds for the Lakers (7-5), who improved to 2-2 while Lebron James is sidelined by an abdominal strain.

Anthony Davis had 24 points and 13 rebounds for Los Angeles, which trailed by nine in the fourth quarter before rallying to beat the Heat, who had won six of eight.

Bam Adebayo scored 28 points before fouling out, and Kyle Lowry had 18 points and 11 assists for Miami, which lost Jimmy Butler to a right ankle sprain in the first half.

Tyler Herro scored 27 points but missed two 3-pointers in the final nine seconds of overtime in Miami’s third loss in four games.

■ Hornets 118, Grizzlies 108: At Memphis, Tenn., Findlay Prep product Kelly Oubre Jr. scored a season-high 37 points on 13-for-17 shooting to set a Charlotte record for points by a reserve, and the Hornets halted a five-game skid. Ja Morant scored 19 of his 32 points in the first quarter for Memphis.

■ Nets 123, Magic 90: At Orlando, Fla., Kevin Durant scored 30 points on 11-for-12 shooting, James Harden had 17 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds, and both sat out the fourth quarter for Brooklyn, which shot 50 percent. Orlando shot 38 percent while missing 29 of 33 3-point tries.

■ Nuggets 101, Pacers 98: At Denver, Will Barton scored a seasonbest 30 points for Denver, which overcame MVP Nikola Jokic’s one-game suspension and won its fourth straight. Domantas Sabonis had 20 points and 19 rebounds for Indiana.

■ Spurs 136, Kings 117: At San Antonio, Dejounte Murray had 26 points to lead seven double-figure scorers for San Antonio, which hit a season-high 18 3-pointers and didn’t trail. De’aaron Fox scored a season-best 37 points for Sacramento.

■ Warriors 123, Timberwolv­es 110: At San Francisco, Andrew Wiggins scored a season-high 35 points against his former team for Golden State (101), which overcame Anthony Edwards’ career-high 46 points in its sixth straight win.

■ Bucks 112, Knicks 100: At New York, Pat Connaughto­n hit three late 3-pointers and totaled 23 points for Milwaukee, which led 70-46 midway through the third quarter before New York rallied for a 89-all tie with five minutes left.

■ Bulls 117, Mavericks 107: At Chicago, Lonzo Ball hit seven of

Chicago’s 15 3-pointers and totaled 21 points as the Bulls halted Dallas’ threegame win streak. Luka Doncic had 20 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds for the Mavs.

■ Thunder 108, Pelicans 100: At

New Orleans, Lu Dort scored 27 points and Shai Gilgeous-alexander 24 for Oklahoma City, which closed the third quarter with a 20-4 run and dealt New Orleans (1-11) its eighth straight loss.

■ Suns 119, Trail Blazers 109: At Phoenix, Frank Kaminsky scored a career-high 31 points for Phoenix, which led 60-47 at halftime and didn’t trail over the final two quarters. Damian Lillard had 28 points for Portland.

■ Pistons 112, Rockets 104: At Houston, Jerami Grant scored 35 points on 12-for-23 shooting for Detroit, which trailed 50-49 at halftime. UNLV product Christian Wood had 20 points and nine rebounds for Houston.

■ Celtics 104, Raptors 88: At

Boston, Jayson Tatum had 22 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists for Boston, which never trailed. Toronto, which trailed by 16 at halftime and 12 after three quarters, fell to 4-1 on the road.

■ Wizards 97, Cavaliers 94: At Cleveland, Kyle Kuzma scored 12 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter, including two 3-pointers in the final 26 seconds that gave Washington its lone secondhalf lead.
