Suzuki’s late goal helps Canadiens best Flames

MONTREAL — Nick Suzuki scored the go-ahead goal on a power play with 7:52 left, the former Golden Knights prospect’s fourth goal in five games, to lead the Montreal Canadiens past the Calgary Flames 4-2 on Thursday.

Suzuki, who also had an assist, notched the decisive goal on a shot from behind the Calgary net that went in off goaltender Jacob Markstrom’s skate.

Markstrom stopped 25 shots. Jake Allen had 24 saves for Montreal. Mikael Backlund and Andrew Mangiapane had firstperio­d goals for the Flames.

■ Capitals 2, Red Wings 0: At Detroit, Zach Fucale became the first Washington goaltender to notch a shutout in his NHL debut, stopping 21 shots, and Dmitry Orlov and Lars Eller scored 10 seconds apart in the first period.

■ Devils 4, Islanders 0: At Newark, N.J., Mackenzie Blackwood had 42 saves in his seventh shutout and first this season, and former Golden Knight Tomas Tatar scored a power-play goal.

■ Kings 2, Senators 0: At Ottawa, Ontario, Jonathan Quick stopped 34 shots in his 55th shutout and first this season, and Los Angeles won its seventh straight.

■ Ducks 7, Kraken 4: At Seattle, Troy Terry had two goals and an assist for Anaheim, which won its sixth straight and dealt Seattle its third loss in a row.

■ Jets 4, Sharks 1: At Winnipeg, Manitoba, former Golden Knights defenseman Nate Schmidt broke a second-period tie with his first Winnipeg goal.

■ Oilers 5, Bruins 3: At Boston, Leon Draisaitl had two goals and an assist to pass Edmonton teammate Connor Mcdavid for the NHL scoring lead.

At Pittsburgh, Jeff Carter scored the decisive shootout goal, handing Florida its third straight loss.

St. Louis, Matt Duchene scored 17 seconds into the second period and 2:01 into overtime.

■ Avalanche 7, Canucks 1: At Denver, Mikko Rantanen had a goal and an assist to back Darcy Kuemper, who stopped 21 shots.
