OLGA HOYOS SAAVEDRA

Our beloved and beautiful Mother and Grandmother, Olga Hoyos Saavedra, 89, joined our heavenly father, September 26, 2021, in Henderson. Olga was born July 5, 1932, to Jesus Hoyos and Michaela Hoyos Quiros in Cumpas, Sonora, Mexico. Olga was the third of nine children. Her father was a cattle rancher and

Olga had fond memories and stories of her large loving family. She always kind, compassionate and thoughtful of others. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She married the love of her life, Ruben Saavedra in 1957 in Las Vegas. They remained married for 53 years until his death in 2010. She always had a positive outlook on life and approached all of life’s complexities with grace and humor. She was inspirational and survived several health issues including breast cancer, lung cancer and COVID-19, only to succumb to dementia. Olga came from a small town and did not speak English when she arrived in Nevada, and yet, she educated herself to become a jeweler and she and her husband Ruben operated a successful jewelry business for over 40 years. Olga loved fashion and would even design her own clothes as a teenager; she enjoyed shopping, cooking for family and friends, and watching American Idol. She loved travel and was thrilled she was able to cruise the Mediterranean Sea, the Mexican Riviera, and Scandinavia including Russia, the Caribbean, and visit Hawaii. Olga’s greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Olga was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ruben; brother, Horacio; and sister Alicia. She is survived by her children, Sylvia (Bob) Teuton, Raul H. Saavedra and Dr. Rubin (Wendy) H. Saavedra; grandchildren, Robert, Isabel Tiara, Cristian, Alexis, Giselle, and Brooke; six brothers and sisters; and many nieces and nephews. She will be buried with her husband, at private service, at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, November 23, 2021, this angel on earth will be deeply missed.
