Watson, No. 2 UCLA hold off Bellarmine

Peyton Watson had 19 points off the bench, Johnny Juzang added 13 and No. 2 UCLA beat Bellarmine 75-62 on Monday night in the Empire Classic at T-mobile Arena.

Watson shot 9 of 12 and had four rebounds, easily outpacing his 3.3 points average through four games this season.

David Singleton added 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting for the Bruins (5-0), who shot

45.2 percent despite Juzang (5 of 14), Jaime Jaquez Jr. (3 of 11) and Tyger Campbell (1 of 7) combining to shoot 28.1 percent.

Bellarmine (0-5) lost in double digits for the fourth time in five games and is coming off consecutiv­e losses against the nation’s top two teams. The Knights lost 92-50 at Gonzaga on Friday.

Dylan Penn led Bellarmine with 19 points and seven rebounds, while CJ Fleming had 12 points and made two 3-pointers.

No. 1 Gonzaga 107, Central Michigan 54:

Chet Holmgren had 19 points and three blocks for the Bulldogs (5-0), who held the Chippewas (1-3) to 30 percent shooting in the second game of the Empire Classic. Liberty High product Julian Strawther added 15 points.

52: Fabian White Jr. scored 21 points for the Cougars (4-0), who overwhelme­d the Bulldogs (3-2) early, scoring the game’s first 17 points while building a 21-point halftime lead.

Wisconsin 69, Texas A&M 58:

Johnny Davis scored 21 points, Brad Davison added 19 for the Badgers (3-1), who hit three straight 3-pointers during a 15-1 run to close the first half.

Quenton Jackson led the Aggies (4-1) with 15 points.

Oregon 73, Chaminade 49:

Eric Williams Jr. scored 14 points, De’vion Harmon added 13 for the Ducks (3-1), who used a 11-0 run in the second half to put the game away.

Raazhel Watkins had 13 points to lead the Silverswor­ds (2-1), who shot 29 percent.
