Nevada fishing report

- Nevada Department of Wildlife

■ Lake Mead — Live shad and topwater lures are tempting striped bass in Boulder Basin. Black bass action has increased. Jigs and soft plastics fished on Ned rigs are producing the best results. Chicken liver is the go-to catfish bait.

■ Lake Mohave/willow Beach — Anglers still are seeing striper boils and finding increased hook-ups. Boaters throwing topwater lures are landing fish over 5 pounds. Success also has been reported with shad swimbaits, specifically in Cottonwood Basin. Spinners and Rooster Tails are luring trout in the early mornings.

■ Laughlin — One- to 2-pound striped bass are taking anchovies from shore anglers. Five- to 15-pound fish have been hitting swimbaits in the evenings and overnight. Rainbow trout are biting spinners and trout jigs along the shore.

■ Las Vegas urban ponds — Planted trout are taking Powerbait and night crawlers. Combinations of night crawler pieces and marshmallows on size 10 and 12 hooks are recommended. A few surprising catches over the past week were bass hitting plastics at Sunset Park and catfish taking black Pistol Petes at the Veterans Memorial Park pond.

■ Kirch Wildlife Management Area —

Afternoons have been warm enough to keep the water clear of ice. Trout fishing is good throughout the day. Bass fishing has slowed. Check weather conditions, and use caution.

■ Eagle Valley Reservoir — Twelve- to 15-pound trout have been caught with Powerbait and night crawlers. Daytime temperatures have cooled. The launch ramp is open, but the pier is absent. Contact Spring Valley State Park at 775-962-5102 for up-todate ice conditions.

■ Echo Canyon Reservoir — Days have been warm enough to keep the edges from icing up. Rainbow trout have been hitting night crawlers and rainbow Powerbait. Weed growth continues to limit shore access in some areas. Contact Echo Canyon State Park at 775-962-5103 for up-to-date ice conditions.
