Betty Peavy White was born in Marfa, Texas in 1931, and passed away at age 89, on April 23, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Thurman White. Betty is survived by three children, Cliff, Nancy and Janet, and grandchild­ren Jettie and Tyler. Betty spent her early years in west Texas, where she made the decision to pursue a career in education. She graduated from Texas Tech University and began teaching. In 1964, Betty and Thurman began moving their family west so they could pursue graduate degrees. She earned her first master’s degree at Utah State University. After locating to Las Vegas in 1967, Mrs. White began teaching English and served as department chair at Valley High School. Betty then earned an Educationa­l Counseling degree at University of Nevada Las Vegas, and in 1979, she opened Guinn Junior High School as a counselor. She spent her remaining profession­al career counseling students. Betty loved her career, and she was well respected by students and colleagues alike. With retirement came a move to Sun City Macdonald Ranch where Betty was very active in and around the community. She was known as a great cook, a gracious hostess, a master Bridge player, and a world traveler. She was always ready to play a board or card game with family and friends, and she found enjoyment in sewing, crafting and needlework. Betty also snow-skied and played golf and tennis. She valued family above all else, and thoughtful­ly nurtured many, many friendship­s during her 89 years of life. A private memorial service was held by her family, during which she was laid to rest next to her husband, Thurman. Memorial donations may be made to the Thurman and Betty White Memorial Scholarshi­p, via the Thurman White Academy of the Performing Arts, 1661 W. Galleria Drive, Henderson, Nevada 89014.
