Ovechkin scores three; Capitals win

WASHINGTON — Alex Ovechkin scored two of his three goals in a 56-second span of the second period as the Washington Capitals beat the Florida Panthers 4-3 on Friday. Ovechkin is 19 goals from passing Jaromir Jagr for third on the NHL’S career list following his 28th hat trick.

Washington has won eight of 10 and ended Florida’s four-game win streak. Ilya Samsonov stopped 19 shots for the Capitals.

Sergei Bobrovsky allowed Ovechkin’s first goal. Bobrovsky left after Ovechkin’s goal at 2:50 but returned after Ovechkin scored against Spencer Knight at 3:46.

Ovechkin’s third goal came at 4:02 in the third period. Evgeny Kuzentsov had three assists for Washington.

■ Blackhawks 3, Blues 2, OT: At Chicago, Alex Debrincat scored 1:27 into overtime as Chicago overcame an early two-goal deficit. Debrincat beat Jordan Binnington for his 12th goal with a one-timer from the left side of the crease after taking a cross-ice feed from Patrick Kane on a 2-on-1 break.

■ Rangers 5, Bruins 2: At Boston, Artemi Panarin scored the first of New York’s three third-period goals with 8:25 left, and the Rangers have 31 points in former Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant’s first 20 games in charge, a team record.

■ Penguins 1, Islanders 0: At New York, Tristan Jarry had 25 saves in his 10th shutout and third this season, and Kasperi Kapanen scored in the second period in Pittsburgh’s fifth straight win.

■ Hurricanes 6, Flyers 3: At Philadelph­ia, Sebastian Aho scored twice for Carolina, and Jesperi Kotkaniemi had a goal and an assist to hand Philadelph­ia its fifth straight loss.

Golden Knight Pierre-edouard Bellemare scored to back Andrei Vasilevski­y, who stopped 17 shots in his 200th victory.

■ Predators 4, Devils 2: At Nashville, Tenn., Roman Josi and Alexandre Carrier each scored and had an assist to back winner Juuse Saros, who made 23 saves.

■ Blue Jackets 4, Canucks 2: At Columbus, Ohio, Gustav Nyquist scored short-handed and had an assist to back winner Elvis Merzlikins, who had 39 saves.

■ Sabres 4, Canadiens 1: At Buffalo, N.Y., former Golden Knight Cody Eakin had a goal and an assist to back Dustin Tokarski, who made 25 saves.

■ Ducks 4, Senators 0: At Anaheim, Calif., Rickard Rakell had a goal and an assist, and Anthony Stolarz had 34 saves in his fourth career shutout.

■ Maple Leafs 4, Sharks 1: At San Jose, Calif., John Tavares and William Nylander each had a goal and an assist to back Joseph Woll, who stopped 34 shots.
