No. 2 Uconn women win, but Bueckers injures knee

STORRS, Conn. — Connecticu­t won its rivalry game against

Notre Dame but might have lost last year’s national women’s player of the year to a knee injury.

Paige Bueckers scored

22 points before going down with seconds left in the No. 2 Huskies’ 73-54 victory over the No. 24

Fighting Irish on Sunday.

“The initial report is

(Bueckers) might have hyperexten­ded it,” coach Geno Auriemma said, noting the injury’s extent won’t be known until Monday.

Uconn (5-1) had a 45-32 edge in rebounds. Notre Dame (7-2) was outscored 28-16 in the paint.

■ No. 2 North Carolina State 78, Elon 46: At Raleigh, N.C., Jada Boyd scored 17 points for the Wolfpack (8-1), who shot 51.0 percent and held the Phoenix (5-2) to 27.8 percent.

■ No. 8 Maryland 74, Rutgers 59: At Piscataway, N.J., Angel Reese scored 18 points for the Terrapins (7-2, 1-0 Big Ten), who went on a 7-0 run after the Scarlet Knights (4-6, 0-1) got within 56-52 in the fourth quarter.

■ No. 9 Iowa 88, Michigan State 61: At Iowa City, Iowa, Caitlin Clark had 24 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds for the Hawkeyes (5-1, 1-0 Big Ten), who routed the Spartans (6-4, 0-1) for coach Lisa Bluder’s 800th win.

■ No. 10 Louisville 80, Belmont 66:

At Louisville, Ky., Hailey Van Lith scored 16 points for the Cardinals (7-1), who shot 54 percent. The Bruins (4-4) missed 20 of 29 3-point tries.

■ No. 11 Arizona 90, Oregon State

65: At Corvallis, Ore., Bennedict Mathurin scored 29 points for the Wildcats (7-0, 1-0 Pac-12), who led 44-36 at halftime. The Beavers (1-8, 0-2) had 22 turnovers.
