Kempe, Doughty excel as Kings nab win over Oilers

EDMONTON, Alberta — Adrian Kempe scored twice as the Los Angeles Kings snapped a two-game skid with a 5-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.

Defenseman Drew Doughty had a goal and two assists to back Jonathan Quick, who had 21 saves, and Rasmus Kupari and Trevor Moore also scored for Los Angeles (10-9-4).

Defenseman Darnell Nurse scored a short-handed goal for the Oilers (16-7-0), who lost a second straight game for the first time this season, and Mikko Koskinen stopped 35 shots.

With the Kings up 2-1 and 6:33 left in the third period, Edmonton captain Connor Mcdavid was assessed a five-minute major penalty for hitting Kempe from behind. Kempe and Doughty cashed in with powerplay goals.

Nurse, who missed the previous six games with a broken finger, scored his first goal of the season midway through the second period with a high shot from a sharp angle.

11th straight loss and sixth in a row at its new arena. Former Golden Knights goaltender Marc-andre Fleury had 22 saves through overtime and stopped all three Islanders shootout tries. New York defenseman Noah Dobson scored with four seconds left in regulation.

■ Lightning 7, Flyers 1: At Philadelph­ia, Corey Perry had two goals and an assist to back Brian Elliott, who stopped 38 shots against his former team, as Tampa Bay won its third straight and dealt Philadelph­ia its eighth loss in a row. Defenseman Victor Hedman had three assists to boost his team-best total to 21.

■ Blue Jackets 6, Sharks 4: At Columbus, Ohio, Adam Boqvist had two goals and Andrew Peeke two assists for Columbus, which snapped a four-game skid with its fourth straight home win. Elvis Merzlikins stopped 30 shots for the Blue Jackets.

■ Jets 6, Maple Leafs 3: At Winnipeg, Manitoba, Blake Wheeler had two assists in his 1,000th NHL game, and former Golden Knights defenseman Nate Schmidt also had two assists for Winnipeg.
