Davidson pulls off upset of No. 10 Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Luka Brajkovic scored 22 points and made a late 3-pointer, and Michael Jones scored 21 points to help lift Davidson to a 79-78 victory over No. 10

Alabama on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats (9-2) rolled to a 13-point lead in the second half and held on for their eighth straight win in a game scheduled to fill sudden voids in their respective schedules because of COVID-19. The Crimson Tide (9-3) have dropped two of three games but stayed in this one until Jahvon Quinerly missed a potential tying free throw with four seconds left.

■ No. 9 Iowa State 79, Chicago State 48: At Ames, Iowa, Izaiah Brockingto­n had 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Cyclones (12-0), who held the Cougars (4-8) to 28 percent shooting.

■ No. 11 Michigan State 90, Oakland 78: At Detroit, Marcus Bingham had 17 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks and was one of five double-digit scorers for the Spartans (10-2), who outreboune­d the Golden

Grizzlies (7-4) 37-28.

■ No. 23 Villanova 71, No. 18 Xavier 58: At Villanova, Pa., Justin Moore scored 12 of his 17 points after halftime for the Wildcats (8-4), who held the Musketeers (11-2) to 26 percent shooting.

■ Utah 55, Fresno State 50: At Salt Lake City, Utah, Marco Anthony scored 11 points and Lahat Thioune scored 10 for the Utes (8-4), who held the Bulldogs (9-3) to 33 percent shooting.

■ Tarleton State 67, Air Force 45: At Stephenvil­le, Texas, Montre Gipson had 12 points for the Texans (5-8), who earned their fourth consecutiv­e home victory. Jake Heidbreder had 15 points for the Falcons (7-4).

■ Utah State 81, Portland State 62: At Logan, Utah, Justin Bean had 29 points and 12 rebounds for the Aggies (9-4), who held the Vikings (37) to 33 percent shooting.

■ New Mexico 68, Norfolk State 54: At Albuquerqu­e, N.M., Jaelen House had 16 points and six assists for the Lobos (7-6). Joe Bryant Jr. had 16 points and six rebounds for the Spartans (9-4).

■ Santa Clara 79, San Jose State 57: At San Jose, Calif., Jalen Williams scored 20 points for the Broncos (9-5), who held the Spartans (6-5) to 16 percent shooting from three-point range. WOMEN

■ No. 6 Maryland 98, Coppin State 52: At Baltimore, Katie Benzan scored 17 of her 22 points in the first half for the Terrapins (10-3), who forced the Eagles (6-6) into 17 turnovers.
