Softball team scores two victories in Chattanoog­a

Ariana Martinez hit a tiebreakin­g two-run homer in the sixth inning to lead UNLV past Southeast Missouri State 5-1 and cap the Rebels’ sweep of two softball games in Chattanoog­a, Tennessee, extending their win streak to five games. Earlier, UNLV (8-5) edged Western Michigan 3-2. Rebels starter Jessie Fontes (3-1) limited the Redhawks (2-4) to one run in seven innings. Courtney Farrish went 2-for-3 with an RBI double for the Broncos (3-3).

■ Men’s swimming and diving: At Pharr, Texas, the Rebels’ 200 freestyle relay team won the Western Athletic Conference title in a program- and league-record 1:16.62, and freshman

Kris Matuszewsk­i won the 200 individual medley (1:46.14) as UNLV stayed atop the six-team standings, 99 points ahead of second-place California Baptist.

■ Track and field: At Albuquerqu­e, N.M., sophomore Erin Thompson placed fifth in the high jump (5 feet,

5.75 inches) in the Mountain West championsh­ips. The Rebels were last in the 11-team field ahead of Saturday’s final events.

■ Baseball: At La Jolla, Calif., Patrick Hackworth’s three-run homer in the second inning was one of six extra-base hits for UC San Diego (2-3) in its 15-1 romp over the Rebels (3-2), who were outhit 15-4.

■ Men’s tennis: At Tempe, Ariz., Aaron Bailey won in singles and doubles to help the Rebels (7-3) notch a 4-0 victory over New Mexico State (2-9).
