Butler, Heat rally to OT win, oust Bucks

Grizzlies stay afloat; Knicks eliminate Cavs

MILWAUKEE — Jimmy Butler scored 42 points as Miami staged a second straight stunning fourth-quarter rally before winning 128-126 in overtime on Wednesday in Game 5 to complete an upset of top-seeded Milwaukee in their Eastern Conference first-round playoff series.

Two nights after outscoring the Bucks 30-13 in the final six minutes of a 119-115 victory in Miami, the Heat produced another huge comeback and tied the game on Butler’s layup with half a second left in regulation.

Miami became the sixth No. 8 seed to beat a No. 1 seed. The last time it happened was in 2012, when a Philadelphia team featuring current Bucks guard Jrue Holiday capitalized on Derrick Rose’s knee injury to beat top-seeded Chicago.

The Heat advanced to a second-round series against fifth-seeded New York, which will host Game 1 on Sunday.

Bam Adebayo put the Heat ahead to stay by dunking in a putback of Butler’s missed layup with 4:44 left in overtime. Milwaukee trailed 128126 and had the ball in the closing seconds, but the clock ran out before Grayson Allen could shoot as he drove to the basket.

■ Grizzlies 116, Lakers 99: At Memphis, Tenn., Desmond Bane scored 33 points and Ja Morant 31, and each had 10 rebounds for second-seeded Memphis, which cut its series deficit to 3-2. Jaren Jackson Jr. added 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who improved to 5-0 in Game 5s played in Memphis. Anthony Davis had 31 points and 19 rebounds and Lebron James 15 points and 10 rebounds for seventh-seeded Los Angeles, which trailed by at least 12 points for the entire fourth quarter.

■ Knicks 106, Cavaliers 95: At Cleveland, Jalen Brunson scored 23 points and R.J. Barrett 21 for fifth-seeded New York, which held a 48-30 edge in rebounds and won the series 4-1 to advance past the first round for the first time since 2013. Donovan Mitchell had 28 points and Darius Garland 21 for fourth-seeded Cleveland, which trailed by at least six points for the entire fourth quarter. All-star forward Julius Randle aggravated a left ankle sprain late in the second quarter and didn’t return for the Knicks.

■ Warriors 123, Kings 116: At Sacramento, Calif., Stephen Curry scored 31 points, and Draymond Green added 21 points and seven assists in his highest-scoring game in more than five years for sixth-seeded Golden State, which took a 3-2 series lead. Klay Thompson had 25 points, Andrew Wiggins 20 points and Kevon Looney 22 rebounds for the Warriors. De’aaron Fox scored 24 points despite a broken index finger on his shooting hand, and Malik Monk and Domantas Sabonis each added 21 points for third-seeded Sacramento.
