Detmers’ arm, Ohtani’s blast propel Angels

ARLINGTON, Texas — Angels left-hander Reid Detmers took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, Shohei Ohtani hit his 42nd home run this season, and Los Angeles beat American League Westleadin­g Texas 2-0 on Wednesday.

The Rangers got their first hit when Marcus Semien lined a double into the left-center gap with one out in the eighth on the 108th and final pitch by Detmers (3-9), who was 0-4 in his previous six starts. The 24-year-old had five strikeouts and four walks.

Relievers Reynaldo Lopez and Carlos Estevez finished the Angels’ eighth shutout this season. Texas entered with .273 team batting average and an Mlb-high 1,138 hits. Estevez yielded back-toback singles to open the ninth but got his 26th save in 28 tries by striking out two of the last three batters.

Ohtani went the opposite way for a 437-foot homer to left-center in the first off Jon Gray (8-6). He later had two infield singles. Gray allowed one run in seven innings. Matt Thaiss homered in the ninth off Josh Sborz.

■ Rays 6, Giants 1: At San Francisco, Luke Raley hit the first pinch inside-the-park homer for Tampa Bay, backing Aaron Civale (6-3), who pitched six shutout innings.

■ Tigers 8, Twins 7: At Minneapoli­s, Riley Greene went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, an

RBI triple and a sacrifice fly for Detroit, which scored seven unanswered runs.

■ Athletics 8, Cardinals 0: At St. Louis, Zack Gelof went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two

RBIS to back Paul Blackburn (3-3), who pitched seven shutout innings.

■ Braves 2, Yankees 0: At Atlanta, Eddie Rosario hit a two-run homer in the second to back Charlie Morton (12-10), who struck out 10 in six shutout innings.

■ Nationals 6, Red Sox 2: At Washington, Keibert Ruiz hit a tiebreakin­g three-run homer in the eighth, and Stone Garrett homered twice for Washington.

■ Cubs 4, White Sox 3: At Chicago, Christophe­r Morel hit a walk-off three-run homer in the ninth. The White Sox had won six straight at Wrigley Field.

■ Diamondbac­ks 9, Rockies 7: At Denver, Christian Walker had two two-run homers among his three hits, including a go-ahead shot in the Arizona eighth.

■ Phillies 9, Blue Jays 4: At Toronto, Bryce Harper went 3-for-4 with two solo homers to help Aaron Nola (10-8) snap a four-start winless streak.

■ Astros 12, Marlins 5: At Miami, Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker and Chas Mccormick homered in Houston’s five-run first.

■ Mariners 6, Royals 5: At Kansas City, Mo., Julio Rodriguez’s four hits included an RBI single in the Seattle ninth.

■ Padres 5, Orioles 2: At San Diego, Fernando Tatis Jr. went 3-for-4, stole home and scored twice for San Diego.

■ Mets 8, Pirates 3: At New York, D.J. Stewart hit a two-run homer and a solo shot for New York.
