ELDA GARCIA

-

Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother Elda

(Guajardo) Garcia, 87, passed away peacefully August 6, 2023, at her home in Las Vegas, after a brief illness. Elda was born February 4, 1936, in

San Antonio, TX to Jesus and Armandina (Polanco)

Guajardo. She married Chet A Garcia

June 13, 1957. In 1960 Elda and Chet moved their growing family to Southern California, where they raised five children. She was later blessed with four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Elda’s pleasant and soothing personality was very much suited for her career in customer service, bookkeeping and accounting. After they moved to Las Vegas in 1994, she began working for Merck Medco, a pharmaceutical firm.

She worked as a customer service representative, then transferred to the accounting department. She was employed there for many years before retiring. Upon retiring, Elda, a devout Catholic, began volunteering her time at her local parish, Holy Family Catholic Church of

Las Vegas. She was a volunteer with the Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, Food Pantry, and with the local chapter of the Catholic Daughters of the America’s. She treasured her time so much with the Catholic Daughters of the America’s, that she volunteered to act as the group’s treasurer. To state that Elda was an avid Dodger fanatic, is an understatement. Elda’s favorite saying is that she bled “Dodger blue.” Our childhood consisted of many Dodger games at Dodger Stadium with plenty of blue souvenir helmets taken home. She was always anxious for baseball season to start and very rarely missed a Dodger game. Elda is survived by her husband Chet; daughters, Teresa (Roger) Buttchen, Elizabeth Garcia and Nanci Garcia; son, Vincent Garcia; grandchildren, Stephanie (Benjamin) Olson,

Derrick Buttchen, Roxanne (Shawn)

Leary and Destiny Vassell; great-grandchildren, Evan Vassell, Colton and Kylie Leary, and Lucie Olson; as well as cherished nieces and nephews. She is joining her parents; daughter, Lucinda Vassell; and her sister, Juanita Aranda for eternity in heaven. Visitation will be 6-8pm Wed., Aug. 23, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123. Services will be 1 1am-noon Thu., Aug. 24, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4490 S. Mountain Vista St., Las Vegas, NV 89121. Committal service will follow from 1-2pm at Palm Eastern Cemetery, 7600 S Eastern Ave. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada or Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.palmeastern.com for the Garcia family.
