No. 12 Arizona surges by No. 2 Duke on road

San Diego State transfer Keshad Johnson hit a tough, whistledra­wing layup for a three-point play with 46.8 seconds left that sent visiting No. 12 Arizona past No. 2 Duke 78-73 on Friday.

Johnson had 14 points and eight rebounds, and Oumar Ballo scored 13 points for the Wildcats (2-0), who had a 45-33 edge in rebounds in their first road win over a toptwo team since 2001.

Kyle Filipowski scored 25 points for the Blue Devils (1-1), who didn’t catch up after Johnson’s threepoint play.

Caleb Love, a North Carolina transfer, assisted on Johnson’s goahead basket and made four free throws during Arizona’s 6-for-6 finish at the line in the final 20 seconds. He totaled 11 points.

■ No. 9 Tennessee 80, Wisconsin 70: At Madison, Wis., Northern Colorado transfer Dalton Knecht scored 24 points for the Volunteers (2-0), who shot 50 percent. The Badgers (1-1) missed 9 of 23 free throws.

■ No. 11 Gonzaga 86, Yale

71: At Spokane, Wash., reserve Braden Huff scored 19 points in his collegiate debut for Gonzaga (1-0), which overcame a 10-point firsthalf deficit. Yale (1-1) trailed 47-42 at intermissi­on.

■ No. 15 Texas A&M 73, Ohio State 66: At Columbus, Ohio, Tyrece Radford and Wade Taylor IV each scored 21 points for the Aggies (2-0) in a game that had seven ties and 19 lead changes. The Buckeyes (1-1) missed 13 of 18 shots in the final 10 minutes.

■ No. 25 Illinois 64, Oakland 53: At Champaign, Ill., Quincy Guerrier had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Illini (2-0), who closed on a 16-5 run. The Golden Grizzlies (0-2) trailed 28-27 at halftime.

Mountain West

■ Brigham Young 74, No. 17 San Diego State 65: At Provo, Utah, Dallin Hall scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half to rally the Cougars (2-0), who missed

13 of their first 17 shots. Jaedon Ledee had 21 points for the Aztecs (1-1).

■ Air Force 82, Long Island 67: At New York, Ethan Taylor hit six 3-pointers and totaled 26 points, 12 rebounds and six assists for the Falcons (1-1), who shot 50.9 percent. The Sharks (0-1) shot 37.7 percent.

■ Colorado State 105, Wright State 77: At Fort Collins, Colo., Isaiah Stevens had 22 points and 14 assists for the Rams (2-0), who shot 63.6 percent. Trey Calvin led the Raiders (0-1) with 33 points.
