San Jose dominates Devils for first road win of season
Jacob Macdonald and Anthony
Duclair each scored twice to back Kaapo Kahkonen, who stopped 44 shots, as San Jose beat New Jersey 6-3 on Friday for the Sharks’ first road win this season.
Mikael Granlund had a goal and two assists, and William Eklund also scored for San Jose (6-16-2). The league-worst Sharks came in 0-10-0 away from home with six goals in those games.
Defenseman Simon Nemec had two assists in his NHL debut for the Devils, who held a 47-18 edge in shots but had their three-game win streak snapped.
Macdonald put San Jose ahead to stay 2:51 into the second period with his second goal of the night and third of the season. It was the first two-goal game for the 30-year-old left wing, who came in with four goals in 109 NHL games.
Nemec, the 19-year-old second pick of the 2022 draft, was promoted from Utica of the American Hockey League to fill in for Dougie Hamilton, who is sidelined indefinitely after having surgery Friday for a torn left pectoral muscle sustained Tuesday.
Former San Jose right wing Timo Meier returned after missing seven games with lower-body injury. A four-time 30-goal scorer in six-plus seasons with the Sharks, the 27-year-old had five shots but was held without a point and had a minus-2 rating in 21:30 of ice time.
New Jersey acquired Meier from San Jose on Feb. 23 in a multiplayer trade and signed him to an eight-year extension.
■ Blue Jackets 4, Senators 2: At Columbus, Ohio, Johnny Gaudreau and defenseman Zach Werenski each assisted on power-play goals by Patrik Laine and Boone Jenner to back Elvis Merzlikins, who had 41 saves, as Columbus overcame a 2-0 deficit.
Dmitri Voronkov and rookie Adam Fantilli also scored for the Blue Jackets, who were outshot 43-23. They have alternated wins and losses for their past five games. Brady Tkachuk had a goal and an assist for the Senators in their third straight loss.
