Balanced Lady Rebels throttle UNR, clinch regular-season league crown

Kiara Jackson had 18 points to lead five doublefigu­re scorers for UNLV as the Lady Rebels beat UNR 98-67 late Saturday in Reno to clinch their third straight regular-season Mountain West title. Desirae Young had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Nneka Obiazor and Jasmyn Lott each scored 13 points for UNLV (24-2, 14-1), which shot 57.8 percent while hitting 10 of 22 3-point tries in its ninth straight win. The Wolf Pack (14-14, 8-7), who trailed 50-20 at halftime, were outrebound­ed 37-24.

■ Football: Senior quarterbac­k Doug Brumfield medically retired from football, he said on social media. The Inglewood, California, native gained all-mountain West honorable mention in 2022 and started last season’s first three games before being sidelined by injuries described as soreness from his ribs to his hip. He sustained a lower-back fracture in 2021 and spent time in concussion protocol in 2022.

■ Women’s swimming: At Houston, Blanka Bokros broke her program, meet and league records in the 200-meter butterfly by finishing in 1 minute, 55.16 seconds to help the Rebels place second in the nineteam Mountain West championsh­ips for a second straight year. Bokros, a senior from Budapest, Hungary, became the first Rebel to three-peat as league champion in the 200 butterfly.

■ Baseball: At Wilson Stadium, Brendan O’sullivan homered, doubled and drove in four runs to back Sam Simon, who pitched seven shutout innings, as the Rebels routed Bradley 10-0 to cap a three-game sweep. Simon held the Braves (1-5) to five hits and one walk while striking out eight. Bailey Seeger went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer as UNLV (6-1) won its sixth straight.

■ Men’s golf: At Southern Highlands Golf Club, Trevor Lewis opened the Southern Highlands Collegiate with a 2-under-par 70 to tie for 17th in an 84-player field, four shots behind leader Jack Lundin of Missouri, after the first of three rounds. The Rebels were 13th in the 15-team field at 3-over 291, 13 strokes behind pace-setting Florida.

■ Softball: At Eller Media Stadium, Imani Edwards went 2-for-4 with a homer and a sacrifice fly to lead Tulsa past the Rebels 4-2. Jessie Fontes allowed one run in 5⅔ innings of relief for UNLV (7-6), which matched the four hits by the Golden Hurricane (9-5).

■ Men’s tennis: At Los Angeles, Martin Jovenin won at No. 5 singles, and Jackson Atherton and Anton Ornberg teamed for a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles for the Rebels (5-4) in their 6-1 loss to 25th-ranked UCLA (5-2).
