Men’s swimming team takes fourth straight WAC title with record score

UNLV won its fourth straight Western Athletic Conference men’s swimming and diving title, setting a meet record with 972 points — 329 more than runner-up Grand Canyon — in the six-team event in Pharr, Texas. On the final day, George Ratiu won the 100-yard freestyle in 43.09 seconds and led off the 400 freestyle relay team that won in 2:51.65. Also, Tatsuki Inoue won the 200 backstroke in 1:43.58, and Colby Raffel won the 200 butterfly in 1:43.89.

■ Baseball: At Wilson Stadium, the Rebels (9-2, 2-1 Mountain West) split a doublehead­er with San Jose State (4-7, 1-2), winning 8-7 and losing 16-13. Rylan Charles went 3-for-5 with a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning of Game 1. Theo Hardy went 3-for-6 with one of the Spartans’ five homers and totaled five RBIS in Game 2, which saw the teams combine for seven errors that led to 15 unearned runs. UNLV trailed 15-3 after six innings.

■ Softball: At San Diego, Alanna Thiede pitched five shutout innings to lead the Rebels past San Diego 4-0. Maddie Schmidt doubled, singled and scored twice. UNLV (10-8) was outhit 6-4. Two errors by the Toreros (5-15) led to three unearned runs.

■ Track and field: At Winterberg, Germany, alumni Kaysha Love and

Azaria Hill placed fourth in the twowoman bobsleigh, the best of any

United States duo, at the Internatio­nal Bobsleigh and Skeleton Foundation world championsh­ips.

■ Women’s tennis: At Fertitta Tennis Complex, Zita Kovacs won at No. 1 singles and doubles for the Rebels (6-4) in their 4-3 loss to Northern Arizona (3-4).
