Shesterkin gets 2nd straight shutout; Rangers down Canes

RALEIGH, N.C. — Igor Shesterkin made 28 saves for his second consecutiv­e shutout as the New York Rangers topped the Carolina Hurricanes 1-0 in a matchup of the top teams in the Metropolit­an Division. Adam Fox scored for the Rangers late in the first period. That goal held up through Carolina using an extra skater for the final two minutes. Hurricanes goalie Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 23 shots, but Carolina’s three-game winning streak ended. The Hurricanes were shut out for the second time this season and the first time since Oct. 24 at Tampa Bay.

■ Flyers 3, Sharks 2: At Philadelph­ia, Owen Tippett scored the go-ahead goal in the third period, and Morgan Frost had a goal and an assist for Philadelph­ia, which was without suspended coach John Tortorell. He is serving a two-game suspension and $50,000 fine for unprofessi­onal conduct directed at officials.

■ Avalanche 6, Flames 2: At Calgary, Alberta, Nathan Mackinnon had a goal and an assist to extend his point streak to 13 games as Colorado won its fourth straight game. The Avs have won six of their last seven.

■ Canadiens 3, Blue Jackets 0: At Montreal, Brendan Gallagher, Jurai Slafkovsky and Joshua Roy scored to back Cayden Primeau, who made 41 saves for his second career shutout.

■ Sabres 7, Red Wings 3: At Buffalo, N.Y., Bowen Byram scored twice and Zach Benson had a goal and two assists in Buffalo’s win over Detroit, which dropped its sixth straight.

■ Blackhawks 7, Ducks 2: At Chicago, Connor Bedard had a goal and four assists for Chicago, which has won two straight for just the second time this season.

■ Panthers 4, Stars 3: At Dallas, Aleksander Barkov scored the go-ahead goal with 5:22 left for Florida, which won for the 18th time in 21 games.

■ Wild 4, Coyotes 1: At St. Paul, Minn., Kirill Kaprizov scored two goals and assisted on another to back Marc-andre Fleury, who made 21 saves.

■ Senators 2, Penguins 1: At Ottawa, Ontario, Drake Batherson scored 3:13 into overtime, as Ottawa ended a seven-game winless streak.
