UNR scores five runs in first inning in victory over UNLV baseball team

Michael Ball, Taylor Holder and Justin Acal each had three hits and an RBI to help UNR top UNLV 10-5 in a Mountain West baseball game in Reno. Jesse Pierce went 2-for-4 with a two-run double for the Wolf Pack (10-11, 6-3), who led 5-0 after one inning and 8-3 after six. Austin Kryszczuk went 2-for-4 with a two-run double for the Rebels (13-10, 3-6), who were outhit 16-8 and lost two games in the three-game weekend set.

■ Georgia running back Trevor Etienne was arrested early Sunday on charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving and two other misdemeano­rs. The 20-year-old Florida transfer has been projected as the Bulldogs’ top running back after rushing for 1,472 yards at an average of 5.9 per carry and 14 TDS in two seasons with the Gators.

■ Coach Dusty May left Florida Atlantic to guide Michigan, agreeing to a five-year, $18.75 million deal. The 47-year-old Indiana graduate, who was a manager under Bob Knight, went 126-69 in six seasons with the Owls, including a 35-4 mark and a Final Four berth last season.

■ St. Bonaventur­e athletic director Joe Manhertz resigned abruptly after two-plus years on the job in the midst of questions regarding the men’s program opting out from competing in the National Invitation Tournament without initially informing its players and fans.

■ At Durham, N.H., freshman Joy Dunne scored with 7:10 left to back Raygan Kirk, who had 26 saves, as Ohio State beat Wisconsin 1-0 in the NCAA women’s title game. The Buckeyes (34-4-0) avenged a 1-0 loss to the Badgers (35-5-0) in last year’s final.

■ At San Diego, Chinyere Okoro, Kennedi Porter, Annakay Maitland and Jaydea Carter placed first in the 400-meter relay at the Aztec Invitation­al in a season-best 44.29 seconds, the fifthfaste­st time in UNLV history.
