Langeliers hits 3 home runs in A’s victory
ARLINGTON, Texas — Shea Langeliers hit three home runs, including a two-run drive in the ninth inning that lifted the Oakland Athletics over the Texas Rangers 4-3. Langeliers, a 26-year-old who entered with 29 career big league homers, hit solo drives in the second off Nathan Eovaldi and in the seventh against David Robertson.
It was the first three-homer game for Langeliers, who hit a pair on Oct. 2, 2022, at Seattle and Aug. 23 against the Chicago White Sox.
Texas led 3-2 in the ninth when Seth Brown walked with one out off José Leclerc (0-2). Langeliers then sent a first-pitch fastball to leftcenter for his fourth home run this season.
Langeliers became only the second Athletics starting catcher to hit three home runs in a game and the first in 99 years. The only other starting catcher to have previously done it was Philadelphia’s Mickey Cochrane on May 21, 1925.
Michael Kelly (1-0) threw a perfect eighth inning, and Mason Miller pitched a perfect ninth for Oakland’s first save this season.

Detroit won for the second time in six games.
■ Dodgers 6, Twins 3: At Minneapolis, James Outman and Will Smith each hit a three-run homer to back Tyler Glasnow (3-0), who tied his career high with 14 strikeouts.
■ Brewers 9, Reds 5: At Cincinnati, Christian Yelich and Blake Perkins each drove in three runs as Joe Ross (1-0) earned his first big league win since June 29, 2021.
■ Diamondbacks 3, Rockies 2: At Denver, Corbin Carroll homered on the second pitch of the game to help manager Torey Lovullo to his 500th career victory.
■ Royals 4, Astros 3: At Kansas City, Mo., Salvador Perez hit a game-ending single in the 10th inning for Kansas City, which won its fifth consecutive.

Acuña Jr. scored three runs and stole three bases to back Reynaldo López (1-0), who had six strikeouts.
■ Nationals 5, Giants 3: At San Francisco, CJ Abrams homered and drove in three runs after missing the previous three games with a bruised pinkie.

■ Blue Jays 5, Mariners 3: At Toronto, Bo Bichette hit a two-run homer as Toronto won consecutive games for the first time this season.
■ Orioles 7, Red Sox 1: At Boston, Colton Cowser drove in four runs to back Corbin Burnes (2-0), who struck out six.
■ Cubs 5, Padres 1: At San Diego, Christopher Morel hit a grand slam for Chicago, which outhit San Diego 9-4.

■ Bees 12, Aviators 2: At Las Vegas Ballpark, the Aviators (2-7) fell to the Bees (4-6) after giving up six runs in the ninth inning. The Aviators got a homer from Esteury Ruiz. Osvaldo Bido (1-1) gave up five runs and eight hits as he was tagged with the loss. Bees starter Andrew Wantz (1-1) earned the win.
