A’s rally, grab third straight series victory

Abraham Toro hit a go-ahead two-run single in Oakland’s six-run sixth inning as the host Athletics rallied from five runs down to beat Washington

7-6 on Sunday to win three straight series for the first time since 2021.

Oakland took two of three for a third straight series after going 4-2 on a trip to Detroit and Texas. The A’s are 6-3 after a 1-6 start. A crowd of 8,637 attended, raising the total to 17,744 for the three-game set.

Mitch Spence (1-1) got his first major league win, and Mason Miller struck out the side in the ninth for his third save. J.J. Bleday and Lawrence Butler each had three hits for the A’s.

Washington led 6-1 in the sixth, when Toro walked against Trevor Williams leading off and Bleday hit a one-out double. Tyler Nevin and Butler had two-out RBI singles off Derek Law (0-1), whose run-scoring wild pitch cut Oakland’s deficit to 6-4.

Law loaded the bases with two walks, and Jordan Weems forced in a run with a full-count pitch in the dirt to Darell Hernaiz. Toro blooped an opposite-field hit to left that dropped in in front of Jesse Winker’s attempt for a diving catch.

O’neill and Triston Casas hit back-to-back twoout homers in the Boston first off Spring Valley product Tyler Anderson (2-1), who worked seven shutout innings in each of his previous two starts.

■ Blue Jays 5, Rockies 0: At Toronto, Justin Turner drove in three runs with a double and two singles to back Jose Berrios (3-0), who allowed two hits in seven shutout innings.

■ Diamondbac­ks 5, Cardinals 0: At Phoenix, Corbin Carroll hit a two-run single in Arizona’s five-run fifth to back Zac Gallen (3-0), who pitched six shutout innings.

■ Braves 9, Marlins 7: At Miami, Marcell

Ozuna hit a go-ahead three-run homer off Tanner Scott (0-3) on an 0-and-2 count with two outs in the Atlanta ninth.

■ Astros 8, Rangers 5: At Houston, Jose Altuve homered in his first two at-bats to back Cristian Javier (2-0), who held Texas to two runs in seven innings.

■ Orioles 6, Brewers 4: At Baltimore, Jackson Holliday singled in the seventh for his first major league hit and scored Baltimore’s tiebreakin­g run.

■ Padres 6, Dodgers 3: At Los Angeles, Jurickson Profar hit a tiebreakin­g three-run double in the seventh for San Diego, which drew 14 walks.

■ Rays 9, Giants 4: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Rene Pinto hit a three-run homer and Amed Rosario a two-run shot off ex-ray Blake Snell (0-2).

■ Mets 2, Royals 1: At New York, Harrison Bader broke a scoreless tie with an RBI infield single in New York’s two-run eighth.

■ Cubs 3, Mariners 2: At Seattle, Michael Busch homered for a fourth straight game, a tworun shot that put Chicago up 3-0.

■ Reds 11, White Sox 4: At Chicago, Christian Encarnacio­n-strand hit a two-run homer and a two-run single for Cincinnati.

■ Guardians 8, Yankees 7: At Cleveland, Andres Gimenez’s walk-off sacrifice fly capped Cleveland’s three-run 10th.

■ Pirates 9, Phillies 2: At Philadelph­ia, Jack Suwinski hit a go-ahead grand slam off Zack Wheeler (0-3) in the sixth.

■ Tigers 4, Twins 3: At Detroit, Mark Canha hit a tying two-run double and scored in Detroit’s four-run eighth.

■ Aviators 7, Bees 6: At Las Vegas Ballpark, Esteury Ruiz and Hoy Park hit consecutiv­e homers to open the bottom of the first, and the Aviators (5-9) never trailed in their third straight win. Osvaldo Bido (2-1) shut out Salt Lake (6-9) over five innings while striking out nine.
