Dodgers put closer Phillips on IL for hamstring strain; Treinen activated
Los Angeles Dodgers closer Evan Phillips (right hamstring strain) was placed on the 15day injured list, and fellow right-handed reliever Blake Treinen (rib fracture, lung contusion) was activated from the IL. Phillips, 29, has a 0.66 ERA and eight saves in 14 games this season. Treinen, 35, out since being struck by a line drive in spring training, missed all of last season after shoulder surgery. He pitched a perfect inning Sunday in his 2024 debut.
■ Guardians: Left fielder Steven Kwan (left hamstring strain) will be placed on the IL Monday, and first baseman Kyle Manzardo will be promoted from Triple-a Columbus. Kwan, 26, a two-time Gold Glove winner, leads the American League in batting at .353 this season. Manzardo, 23, is a top prospect.
■ Rangers: Left fielder Wyatt Langford (right hamstring strain) will be placed on the IL Monday and is expected to be sidelined at least three weeks, manager Bruce Bochy said. The 22-year-old rookie, a first-round draft pick last year, has hit .224 with one homer and 11 RBIS in 31 games.
■ Red Sox: Right-hander Nick Pivetta (right elbow flexor strain), sidelined since April 9, is expected to be activated to start Wednesday, manager Alex Cora said. The 31-year-old is 1-1 with a 0.82 ERA, 13 strikeouts and no walks over 11 innings in two starts this season.
■ Diamondbacks: Right-hander Ryne Nelson (right elbow contusion) was activated from the IL. The 26-year-old Basic High product got the win Sunday in Arizona’s victory over San Diego and is 2-2 with a 5.23 ERA in five starts this season.
■ Rays: Right-hander Ryan Pepiot exited his start in the second inning with a lower left leg contusion after a 107.5 mph comebacker struck him. X-rays were negative. The 26-year-old is 3-2 with a 3.68 ERA in seven starts this season.
■ Padres: Right-hander Joe Musgrove (right triceps tendinitis) was placed on the 15-day IL. The 31-year-old 2022 All-star is 3-3 with a 6.37 ERA in eight starts this season.
