UNLV baseball team belts six HRS, salvages finale with Fresno State

Austin Kryszczuk, Kade Higgins and J.P. Hefft drove in three runs each to help UNLV top host Fresno State 16-10 in the Rebels’ Mountain West baseball regularsea­son finale. Higgins hit two of the six home runs by UNLV (26-24, 12-18), and Kryszczuk went deep and had two of the Rebels’ four doubles. Hefft, Alex Pimentel and Brendan O’sullivan homered for UNLV, which never trailed and had an 18-10 edge in hits. Murf Gray went 4-for-5 with a solo homer and a three-run double for the Bulldogs (29-22, 16-11), who won twice in the three-game set.

■ Women’s track and field: At Clovis, Calif., UNLV junior Kennedi Porter placed first in two sprints and was part of a second-place relay at the Mountain

West outdoor championsh­ips. The Rancho Cucamonga, California, native won the 200-meter dash in 22.98 seconds and the 100 in 11.33, becoming the first Rebel to win the latter race in the event since 2005. Porter also teamed with Chinyere Okoro, Annakay Mailtand and Shakeira Bowra to take second in the 400 relay in 44.65 seconds.

■ Women’s lacrosse: At Evanston, Ill., Northweste­rn attacker Izzy Scane broke the Division I goals record by scoring five in the reigning champion Wildcats’ 17-4 win over Denver in the NCAA Tournament. Scane, who grew up in Michigan, has 363 goals in 81 matches. The previous record was held by Charlotte North, who had 358 goals in 87 matches for Boston College and Duke from 2018 to ’22.

■ Men’s basketball: Sundance Wicks agreed to a five-year deal to coach Wyoming. The 43-year-old Gillette, Wyoming, native went 18-14 as Green Bay’s coach in 2023-24 — a 15-win improvemen­t from the previous season. He spent the previous three seasons as a Cowboys assistant under Jeff Linder, who left to be a Texas Tech assistant after going 63-59 in four seasons.
