Sultry Peepers
A-listers redefine ‘bedroom eyes’ by encircling their peepers with shadow for seriously sultry style
A step-by-step guide to scoring Kristen Stewart’s raccoon-eye makeup look.
No longer content with settling for the same-old smoky eye, celebs are putting a modern spin on the classic steamy look by wrapping their entire eye in dark, blended shadows. “This more allaround shadow style adds a shot of edge and drama to any look,” says makeup artist Debra Macki, who has worked with Rihanna and Kesha. “And whereas the traditional smoky eye brings eyes a little closer together, this more elongated version helps pull the eyes apart for a sleeker, more sultry vibe.” Macki’s key to ensuring the dark shadow reads as intentional and not, Oops, I smudged my makeup? “Swap the standard smoky black color for dark blues or browns and give the ‘fade’ a more structured angle — it keeps the look edgy but notmessy.”
Kristen Stewart shows how it’s done. Her top-to-bottom blue shadow pops against her platinum locks while a touch of silver sparkle puts a funky twist on the glam look. “She also gave the glitz a rock ’n’ roll vibe by adding a sharp wing to the mix,” says Macki. “And those bare lips let eyes make the big statement.”
For a more subdued spin on the dark circles, Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot went with a shimmery brown. “We love to experiment and change up her look, so we pushed it with this chic, straight- off-the-runway raccoon- eye effect,” says the star’s makeup artist, Kara Yoshimoto Bua. “I added a silvery green to the inner corners of her eye to bring in a little splash of color.” Read on for more how-to on re-creating the fabulously fierce look!
