BAD BACHELOR

Bachelorette front-runner Garrett Yrigoyen is accused of troubling behavior on Instagram — and during his first marriage

Becca Kufrin’s falling for Bachelorette contestant Garrett Yrigoyen — but he’s got a shady past.

From the moment Garrett Yrigoyen stepped out of his minivan and kissed her hello, Becca Kufrin clearly saw him as marriage material. “I was smitten,” confessed the Bachelorette star, 28, who made her feelings clear by giving Garrett the coveted first-impression rose. But there’s a dark side to the Bachelorette frontrunner. Hours after Becca and Garrett’s first meeting aired on TV, news spread that Garrett’s alleged Instagram account had “liked” a series of offensive posts, including t r ansphobic memes and messages promoting violence against immigrants. It caused a storm of controversy at ABC — which was still reeling from its cancellation of hit show Roseanne after star Roseanne Barr posted a racist tweet — leading to speculation Becca’s season could be yanked off the air. While an ABC exec initially pointed out that it hadn’t definitively been proven the account is Garrett’s, Life & Style has exclusively learned that there’s other questionable behavior in the medical sales rep’s past. His first marriage, to a woman named Kayla Cunningham, ended after just six months, reveals a pal of Kayla’s, because Garrett changed drastically after they tied the knot, then walked out on her. “Why did he marry her and have her family spend thousands of dollars on the wedding, and then all of a sudden say, ‘I just can’t do this anymore?’” the pal questions. “Her family felt like she had been scammed.”

A BLINDSIDED EX

Bachelorette host Chris Harrison has described Garrett, 29, as “heartbroken” over his divorce, which was finalized in March 2016. But the friend claims it was Kayla who wound up devastated. “She ended up going to therapy and was stressed a lot and very upset,” the pal says. “She was in it for the long haul, and then he just walked out and never came back. She was so fragile and cried a lot.”

While Kayla has since remarried, the pal says there are still many unanswered questions about Garrett — including his reasons for leaving her. “They laughed a lot and he was very charming,” the pal says. “Maybe she was so blinded by love, she didn’t notice red flags.” But soon after the wedding, the pal says, Garrett started acting cold and disrespectful toward Kayla and her family. Then, one day, “he packed up all his crap,” the pal says. “A week later, he said he wanted half of everything.” After a lengthy court battle, “she had to give him some money,” says the pal, who hopes Becca is careful. “I want Becca to know the truth about Garrett. He’s a nice guy at first, but she needs to watch out.”

BECCA’S TAKE

Becca has yet to comment on Garrett’s previous marriage, but after she was dumped on camera by Bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr. (see box, below), she told pals she couldn’t take more heartbreak. And a friend of the Minnesotaborn publicist says Becca, who supported Hillary Clinton and took part in the Women’s March, would be horrified by his alleged Instagram likes. “It’s not something anyone would find acceptable — especially Becca, who is one of the nicest people I know,” says the friend. Publicly, though, Becca’s urging viewers to keep an open mind about Garrett’s online behavior. “I can’t fault anyone for what they believe,” she said on May 30. “I want viewers to be open to everyone and I want them to go through this season with me and watch my love story unfold with all of these men.”

She proudly displayed her curvy bod on The Voice, but now that Christina Aguilera is back to recording and performing, she’s also making time for more active pursuits. “Christina has been doing yoga five times a week,” says an insider, and it’s gotten her more toned than she’s been in ages. As she prepares to start her first tour in almost a decade in September, 5-foot-2 Christina, 37, has made it a priority to look and feel her best — and has already gone from roughly 165 pounds to 130, observes Dr. Pescatore. Eating sensibly helps: “She’s on a high-protein, low-carb diet,” the insider says. “She’s cut out chips, chocolate snacks and fast food. But she isn’t fanatical about it.”
