Hiding Their Troubles

-

George and Amal can’t stop fighting over everything from other women to his need for freedom. “On the surface, they appear to have one of the happiest home lives,” says a source, “but it just isn’t so.”

is definitely pregnant. “Their whole social circle is talking about it.”

But pals also have noticed signs of trouble between Amal and George, 57. While the duo have put on a united front at a series of recent events, they’ve been in turmoil behind the scenes, the insider says. Days before the May 7 Met Gala in NYC, “They had a massive disagreement,” the insider says, “so Amal insisted she wanted to stay in her own room at the Carlyle Hotel. George was trying to keep his cool, but you could tell he was boiling inside.” Throughout the Gala, the insider notes, “There was an uncomfortable silence between them. It was pretty obvious they needed some space.”

HIS NEW WORLD

The fight to end all fights came at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s fairytale “I do”s on May 19 in London. A fellow guest, Meghan’s gorgeous actress friend Priyanka Chopra, 35, was happily chatting with George, and Amal grew convinced they were flirting. “I’m sure Priyanka didn’t mean to be flirty but it came off that way,” says an eyewitness. “Amal ended up literally taking George by the arm and leading him to another part of the room.”

George has had some

trouble adjusting to life as a married man. Following a failed marriage to actress Talia Balsam in the early 1990s, he spent two decades declaring he’d never tie the knot again. Even now, nearly four years after he wed Amal, he’s still getting used to how much his world has changed. “George was used to doing what he wants, when he wants. Now he’s tied down with a lot of responsibilities.” He adores his children, “but he feels like he’s drowning at times,” explains the insider. And as much as he loves Amal, “He misses some parts of his old single life.”

Being a husband and fa-

ther to Ella and Alexander has come with rules. Amal is adamant about the Casamigos Tequila founder not drinking or smoking cigars, says the source, and has even “given George a curfew. She doesn’t want him coming home late after being out with friends and waking up the twins.”

Even when the actor gets home on time, fights still sometimes erupt. “Amal’s mood swings have been out of control lately,” says the source. “There are times when George just wants a night out…. One minute she tells him it’s OK and the next she’s berating him for going out.”
