MARRIAGE TROUBLE FOR KRISTIN & JAY
To celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary, Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler gave each other the traditional gift of wood — which fans might want to start knocking on! The Laguna Beach alum, 31, and her NFL star husband are in couples counseling after their marriage started to splinter, a source exclusively tells Life & Style. “Kristin and Jay may seem like the all-american couple — girl next door falls in love with the football jock — but that’s all a facade,” says the source. “They have problems.” With Kristin opening a flagship store for her lifestyle brand, Uncommon James, in Nashville and preparing to return to reality TV on E!’s Very Cavallari and Jay off playing for the Miami Dolphins, the couple spent long stretches of time apart last year. “Kristin and Jay don’t see eye to eye on a lot of things, and she hated how rarely they saw each other,” says the source. And with three kids — sons Camden, 5, and Jaxon, 4, and daughter Saylor, 2 — to look after at home, “at times Kristin started to feel like a single mom. Luckily, they realized their relationship was in trouble and went to therapy.” Now there are reports that the NFL quarterback, 35, is considering retiring this season, which would let him spend more time with his family. “Jay said he would be more present, and it looks like he’s making good on his promise,” explains the insider. “Marriage is hard work. Kristin will be the first to admit it. But she and Jay aren’t quitters.”
