MATT COULDN’T ‘PHIL’ THE ROLE

Ty Burrell, 50, made a name for himself as adorkable dad Phil Dunphy on Modern Family. But he wasn’t the first funny guy to be offered the role. The show’s producers initially approached Friends vet Matt Leblanc — who claims he turned them down because he wasn’t up for the challenge. “I remember…thinking, this is a really good script, [but] I’m not the guy for this,” says the actor, 51. “I’d be doing the project an injustice to take this. I know what I can do, I know what I can’t do. Plus, I’m having too much fun laying on the couch.”
