BIRTHDAY GIRL
Pomp and presents! Kate Middleton and Prince William’s little girl celebrates her birthday in royal fashion
Princess Charlotte turns 4 — and the royal family throws her a fabulous party, complete with a custom-made cake and a bouncy castle!
She may be fourth in line for the British throne, but on May 2 Princess Charlotte was definitely the royal family’s No. 1. Prince William and Kate Middleton’s middle child, and only daughter, turned 4 that day. “Charlotte was so excited she could hardly sleep,” says a source. “She spent the past month telling everyone her birthday was coming, and she insisted on picking out her outfit for the big day. She feels so grown-up!”
Though Kate, 37, and William, 36, are careful not to spoil their kids, “they make an exception for birthdays,” notes the source. And now Life & Style has the exclusive details of how the regal duo went all- out on a celebration filled with friends, fun and plenty of gifts for Charlotte. “Kate meticulously planned everything weeks in advance — she ordered dozens of cupcakes, balloons and even a bouncy castle for the kids,” says the source, who adds that the duchess got one important assist from birthday girl Lottie (as the brunette tyke is
affectionately known to family). “Charlotte asked for a Peppa Pig cake!”
The presents surely also included toys themed after the little princess’ favorite animated TV show, as well as slime — one of her preferred playthings. But big brother Prince George, 5, went the thoughtful route with his gift. “He made a birthday card for his sister at school and spent hours trying to decide between this one special book and a cuddly stuffed bear,” says the source. “Hehad such a tough time deciding, Kateended
up buying both for him to give to her.”
CHARLOTTE IN CHARGE
There’s no doubt she loved them. And if she didn’t, she’d probably let George know! “Charlotte is far from shy,” explains the source of the opinionated 4-year- old. “She’s a real chatterbox who’s always asking questions and loves to play leader.”
Indeed, both Kate and Queen Elizabeth II, 93, have noted her tendency to take charge of George as well as her younger brother, Prince Louis, 1. “She’s the most outgoing of the three children,” adds the source. “They all get along famously, apart from the occasional squabble — during which Charlotte can definitely hold her own!”
