WEDDED WOES

As their 10th anniversary approaches, Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky are at odds

-

There’s trouble in paradise for Chris Hemsworth and his wife, Elsa Pataky, after 10 years of marriage.

This December, Elsa Pataky and Chris Hemsworth will mark 10 years of marriage. And, from the pair’s three adorable children to their idyllic, beachside life in his native Australia, they seem to embody #relationshipgoals.

But appearances can be deceiving. “It’s funny that people think of us as a perfect couple,” Elsa recently remarked. “No way. It’s been ups and downs.” Currently, an insider tells Life & Style, Chris, 37, and Elsa, 44, are in the midst of one of their down periods — disagreeing over everything from where to raise their brood to how much time Chris should spend away from home. “Elsa and Chris are hanging by a thread,” reveals the insider. “They’ve been doing their best to cling onto their marriage, but they’ve been having problems for years. And lately, those problems are getting worse.”

OPPOSING VIEWS

A lot of the trouble has to do with their living situation. Elsa and Chris have settled with India, 8, and twins Sasha and Tristan, 6, on a sprawling estate in the exclusive Byron Bay area of Australia. But as pleasant as the setting may be, Madrid-born Elsa often feels isolated there — especially when her Thor star husband is out of town on a shoot. “If Elsa had it her way, she and Chris would spend half the year with her family in Spain. She misses them dearly,” the insider notes. “But Chris is always too busy to even talk about it.”

Handling the bulk of the childcare responsibilities as Chris books movie after movie, Elsa has become increasingly frustrated, insists the insider. “She calls him selfish, but he doesn’t seem to get it,” shares the insider, who adds that even with film work slowed due to the pandemic, Chris remains focused on his career. “She’s mostly given up her career for the sake of their family and can’t help feeling their relationship is one-sided at times.” And signs of appreciation are hard to come by these days. “Date nights rarely exist,” says the insider. “Chris seems more interested in lining up his next big Hollywood project than organizing romantic surprises for Elsa.”

When the Fast & Furious alum lashes out? He leaves the house to blow off steam. “Chris will disappear for hours and go surfing,” says the insider, noting that even though she has friends in the area, “Elsa often feels trapped at home.”

While a rep for Chris and Elsa has previously shot down rumors of marital discord, the insider contends that the tension — and the fighting it causes — has only intensified of late. “There’s no denying Chris loves Elsa, but they’ve been together so long, they’re both stuck in their ways,” the insider says. “It’s sad.”
