A good weekend for fishing

- JEREMY GRIMES

Happy holidays from everyone at fishermans Friend we hope this fishing report on the day after Thanksgiving finds everyone in good health. It’s also a great time to hit our local fisheries, so lets take a look at what’s going on.

Ocean

Crabbing is the ticket and sport boats that can get out are finding good to moderate fishing from San Francisco on north. Watch the weather — it can be unsettling. Bottom fishing has been hit and miss with party boats out of Emeryville and Bodega reporting limits to near-limits, then slow days the next. As a reminder December 31 is the last day for rock fishing.

Delta

Sturgeon continue to be the top fish on the bite. Top Baits are fresh Roe, Eel, shad, and ghost Shrimp. Keep those baits on the bottom, work the deep holes and channel edges from Collinsville to pittsburg. Stripers are hitting on shad and sardines, while mudsuckers (frozen or fresh) are producing on the drift. Target water from 8 feet to 27 feet for both. Magic thread wrap on your bait to keep from feeding the small fish.

Black Bass are hitting, spinner baits and drop shotting in the drop offs and ledges. Fish react to the storm fronts moving through, and should be fished as if they were in a transition stage.

Motherload lakes

Pardee is now closed and will remain so through midFebuary.

Camanche is going great for trout. Stay in the top 8 feet of water and back 150 feet. Rapala f5 fire tiger and speedy shiners are the dominate lures. Use the fire tiger rapala for the big crappie, great eatin really sweet fish.

Have a happy weekend, and I hope everyone stays safe and while the family’s in town try and take a few fishing. Tight lines!
