No. 13 Indiana knocks off No. 3 Tar Heels

BLOOMINGTO­N, Ind. — OG Anunoby scored 16 points, James Blackmon Jr. had 14 and Robert Johnson added 11 Wednesday night, leading No. 13 Indiana past No. 3 North Carolina 76-67 in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.

The Hoosiers (5-1) have won two straight since last week’s stunning loss to little-known IPFW.

In that game, Johnson struggled, Blackmon injured his knee and Anunoby tried to play through an illness. This time, they helped Indiana start fast and fend off the Tar Heels’ second-half charges to close it out. Anunoby was injured at the end of the game and needed help to get to the locker room.

• No. 7 Virginia 63, Ohio St. 61 — At charlottes­ville, Va.: London Perrantes scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half for Virginia in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

• No. 9 Baylor 79, Sam Houston St. 45 — At Waco, Texas: Reserve King McClure scored 14 points and Baylor remained unbeaten.

• No. 11 UCLA 98, UC-Riverside 56 — At Los Angeles: Isaac Hamilton scored 27 points, tying his career-high with seven 3-pointers, and UCLA improved to 8-0, the Bruins’ best start since coach Steve Alford’s first season in Westwood three years ago.

Freshman T.J. Leaf added 18 points and 10 rebounds, Aaron Holiday had 18 points and Thomas Welsh had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Lonzo Ball, the nation’s assist leader, set a freshman game assist record with 13 for the Bruins, who were coming off winning the title at last week’s Wooden Legacy. They hit nine of their 13 3-point attempts in the second half.

• No. 12 Saint Mary’s 66, Stanford 51 — At Stanford: Calvin Hermanson scored a career-high 25 points and knocked down a career-best seven 3pointers for undefeated Saint Mary’s.

Jock Landale had 13 points and eight rebounds while playing in foul trouble for the sharp-passing Gaels (6-0).

• No. 14 Louisville 71, No. 15 Purdue 64 — At Louisville, Ky.: Ray Spalding and Mangok Mathiang each scored11 points and Donovan Mitchell contribute­d seven critical points down the stretch to help Louisville in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

• No. 16 Arizona 85, Texas Southern 63 — At Tucson, Ariz.: Lauri Markkanen scored 19 points and hit five 3-pointers, helping Arizona bounce back from its first loss of the season.

Arizona (6-1) had no letdown after losing to Butler last week, jumping on the Tigers (4-3) from the opening tip. The Wildcats built a 13-point lead in the opening 5 minutes and were up 19 by halftime, cruising to the 37th straight non-conference win at McKale Center.

• No. 23 Oregon 93, W. Oregon 54 — At Eugene, Ore.: Preseason All-America Dillon Brooks scored 21 points and Roman Sorkin had 15 for Oregon.

Chris Boucher added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Ducks (6-2), who won their fourth straight game and 29th in a row at home. Tyler Dorsey had 12 points.

WOMEN

• No. 1 Notre Dame 73, Iowa 58 — At Iowa City, Iowa: Brianna Turner scored 15 points, Arike Ogunbowale added 14 points and No. 1 Notre Dame held off Iowa 73-58 on Wednesday night in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Lindsay Allen added 11 points for the Irish (7-0). They had 42 points in the paint and scored 21 points off 23 Hawkeyes turnovers.

• No. 8 Florida 75, Minnesota 61 — At Minneapoli­s: Nicole Ekhomu scored 16 points and Ivey Slaughter had 14 points and 10 rebounds to help Florida State beat Minnesota in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

• No. 16 west Virginia 94, Morehead St. 53 — At Morgantown, W.Va.: Lanay Montgomery scored a careerhigh 23 points and had 18 rebounds and six blocks for West Virginia.

• No. 19 Florida 74, Wofford 51 — At Ocala, Fla.: Ronni Williams scored a career-high 26 points and had 11 rebounds for Florida.

• No. 20 Syracuse 75, Michigan St. 64 — At Syracuse, N.Y.: Alexis Peterson had 27 points, six rebounds and five steals in Syracuse’s victory in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge game on Wednesday night.

• No. 21 Colorado 112, Southeaste­rn Louisiana 54 — At Boulder, Colo.: Kennedy Leonard scored 19 points and Colorado tied the fifth highest-scoring total in program history.

Leonard had 14 points in the first halg to help Colorado (7-0) take a 52-23 lead.

• No. 22 Tennessee 86, Tennessee St. 36 — At Knoxville, Tenn.: Jaime Nared had 16 points and 10 rebounds before sitting out tyhe fourth quarter in Tennessee’s blowout victory.

• Southern California 66, No. 25 TexaS A&M 62 — At College Station, Texas: Kristen Simon had 20 points and eight rebounds, and Sadie Edwards scored 18 points in Southern California’s victory over Texas A&M.

Edwards mada a late free throw to seal it for USC (6-1).
