DONALD REED MATHEWS

Donald Reed Mathews passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was born in New Plymouth, ID and graduated from high school in 1939.

He was in the US Army Air Corp from 1940-1953. Don received his Teaching credential­s at UC Berkeley specializi­ng in Tool and Die and Industrial Engineerin­g. He taught at Stockton College-later known as SJ Delta College for 32 years. Don served in numerous roles in creating and developing equipment facilities and curriculum­s. Don participat­ed in many sports and his primary love was Golf. He was a Board member for the American Red Cross and Director of Operations for Su Salud Health Fairs in Stockton, CA.

He was a 33rd degree Mason, and past Commander of the American Legion Post, also a Shriner.

Don was the oldest with 2 brothers and 2 sisters; Lawrence (deceased), Keith (deceased), Ardell Reich, and Beverly Crabtree.

Don was preceded in death by two loving wives; Phyllis (Cook) Mathews for 34 years, and Elizabeth (Powell-Barbour) Mathews for 32 years. He is survived by his two loving families; Two sons, Larry Mathews (deceased), and wife Barbara, Phil Mathews and wife Kay, and his daughter Lois Mathews-Harrigan. Don’s second wife’s two daughters and a son; Linda Barbour-Kambe (deceased), son-in-law Tom Kambe, Chris and son-in-law Steve O’ Kane, and Son Robert Barbour and wife Julie. He was blessed with 14 Grandchild­ren, 10 Grandchild­ren, and 1 Great-Great Grandson.

At Don’s request there will be no formal service. If you’d like to make a monetary donation in Don’s memory, please do so to any of the following causes that were dear to him: American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, your local Public School Art and Music programs, the Betty (Elizabeth) Mathews Scholarshi­p-Delta College, and the Shriners Hospital for Children.
