The community ready to deliver again with Grape Bowl press box
Editor: What great news ... to hear that the press box at the Grape Bowl is receiving some ‘much needed’ care. The recent article on the needs of the structure were certainly timely. It has been 24 years since the structure rose from the ashes of the original press box and its torching.
Way back when parents, neighbors, teammates, cheerleaders and coaches saw the need, and rose to the call. Credit to all of those who made the ‘dream’ a reality. It wasn’t easy, but commitment, perseverance and pride brought everyone together. Diede Construction and Meehleis Modular knew the drill, and the volunteers knew the need ... moneys were sought, from $5 to those who graciously gave the $1,000 here and there.
Our “Wine, Cheese and Please” rallys brought Lodi together with a common goal. Our four little sheets of plywood — the original goal — became much more as laws. rules, specifications, permits, engineering etc,, made our original vision a much larger one.
But, as you can see, the press box rose from the ashes, and stands as a tribute to every single donor who chose to participate. The community delivered and the press box was rebuilt at a cost of $150,000.
We hear that that same heart of Lodi has been found, as a new caring Lodian has chosen to fix the aging roof, and enable all of us to once again look up.
Lodi continues to find the heart of community care and success. Just a reminder — that press box took a village, and many who were part of the endeavor are still here, still a part and still proud. So many thanks. Look Up! It’s a beacon!

And Donald, your campaign of the last year was the most vile I have witnessed in 50 years and played to the hate and separation of the Republican anti-abortionists, anti-gay crowd and the Republican Muslim haters.
