ELLA ROSE DARCY

April 8, 1928 – December 1, 2016

Our loving mother, Ella Darcy, passed away December 1, 2016, at a local skilled nursing facility. She was born April 8, 1928, to John and Bertha Miller, in Venturia, North Dakota. She had 4 sisters and 1 brother. Her early years were spent on her German parents’ wheat farm. Ella was very proud of her German heritage and spoke German well.

At age 14, the family moved to Lodi, CA. Ella graduated from Lodi High in 1945, and shortly thereafter went to work for Dr. Russell Spittler. She enjoyed her employment there and made many life long friends that brought her much joy. Ella moved on to being an executive secretary at PG&E, in Lodi and Stockton, a position she held for 30 years. Here again she created many life long friends.

After retiring from PG&E, Ella trained herself to become a medical transcriber and worked for Lodi Physical Therapy for several years.

After her final retirement, Ella spent her days at her favorite sport, golfing at Woodbridge Country Club, volunteering at the local library, and socializing with her numerous long time friends. Some of Ella’s happiest memories were of all the good times she spent in Aptos, CA, with her sister Vi and brother-in-law Walt Ehlers. She was always a voracious reader, loving to learn of the lives of celebrities. Ella was a very self educated woman, and a STICKLER for proper grammar! Ella was always known for her elegant style. She absolutely loved living in Lodi.

Ella was most proud of her two sons. She had wonderful relationships with all of her six grandchildren and was thrilled to become a great grandmother this past April.

Ella is survived by two sons, Phil Ortez Jr. (Kathy), Thomas Ghidossi (Elisabeth), grandchildren Kelly, Jennifer, and Philip Ortez, Anthony Ghidossi (Stephanie), Chelsea Steverman (Jesse), Katie Ghidossi, and great grandchild Delaney Steverman. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held at Zion Reform Church, 105 South Ham Lane, Lodi, CA, on December 22, 2016, at 11:00am. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at Woodbridge Golf and Country Club, 800 Woodbridge Road East, Lodi, CA.
