Day-2-Day Diabetes Support Group meeting

-

This month’s Day-2-Day Diabetes Support Group meeting will be held this Thursday, Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lodi Public Library, located at 201 W. Locust St. This meeting will be a Christmas Social.

Everyone is requested to bring some kind of finger food snack for themselves and two to three other people. No hot dishes.

The Support Group will supply water, coffee and condiments (sugar, cream, etc.), paper plates, cups, napkins, and utensils.

All are encouraged to attend even without an appetizer.

A representative from Medicare is scheduled to attend and will answer questions regarding some of the insurance issues for 2017.

The representative will provide handouts to take home and review and will be on hand to answer questions.

Those who attend are encouraged to bring a list of your supplies that you use on a frequent basis and the name of each type of insulin you use so the group can create an inventory.

Diabetics having trouble securing supplies, following changes in regulations and guidelines in 2017, will be able to reach out to other members for emergency help.

The group has an attendee that is low income with no insurance and is having a very difficult time affording blood testing strips.

He is a newly diagnosed, type-1 diabetic and needs to test six to 10 times a day, according to group founder, Duane Simpfenderfer.

The group is helping purchase his blood testing supplies and is trying to get him proper insurance.

However, anyone using “Free Style Ultra Blood Testing Strips” may be able to help this young man who has a family to support and is having to choose between rent and food or purchasing test strips.

If you are able to spare a vial or two of these strips, the group will make sure he gets them until this insurance issue is resolved.

For more information, call Duane Simpfenderfer, Sr. at 209-369-1599.
