Flames fall in nonleague

The Tokay High boys soccer team improved to 2-2 on the season with a 3-0 win over McNair in Tuesday’s non-league match in Stockton.

Ivan Rosales scored the Tigers’ first goal in the first half. Toward the end of the half, Michael Valenca added the second for a 2-0 halftime lead. Matt Salas added the final goal in the second half.

Valenca, along with Noah Scofield and Alfonso Ochoa, had an assist each for the Tigers. Their teammate, goalie Joe Luis, had three saves. On defense, Tokay was led by Luis Plaza and Diego Hernandez.

Varsity

Liberty Ranch 7, Argonaut 0

The Hawks had two of their goals from Carlos Navarro in Tuesday’s non-league match in Jackson. Other scorers for Liberty Ranch (4-3-2) were Jose Magana, Leo Soto, Justin McCreery, Mark Vazquez and Rafael Lua.

River City 1, Lodi 0

River City outshot the Flames 7-2, and scored the only goal of the game in the 20th minute. Hugo Solis blocked three shots in goal for Lodi (2-2), and defensive standouts were Juan Romero and Christian Ochoa. Luis Sandoval and Tyler McBee stood out on offense. Frosh-soph

Sam Eigenberge­r and Anthony Abundis each scored twice, with assists going to Eigenberge­r, Sergio Sandoval, Eddie Sandoval and Javier Maldonado. Cristian Gonzalez and Danny Maldonado played solid games.

Tokay 13, McNair 0

Rigo Godoy had thee goals and an assist to lead an offensive outburst for the Tigers. Jordan Baumback, Oscar Hernandez and Sebastian Quiroz added two goals each, while Jose Gonzalez, Jose Venegas, Francisco Gaona and Arturo Rivera each scored once.

Assists went to Eduardo Guillen (two), Juan Gutierrez, Omar Ramirez, Quiroz, Brandon Razo, Pedro Velasquez and Adrian Garcia. Miguel Cerfantes blocked three shots in goal for Tokay (4-0).

Placer 70, Lodi 57

Monica Valenzuela scored 19 points and Alexa Brandt added 12 in Tuesday’s loss on the road. Marissa Fabian added seven points, Alaina Gravenkamp had five, Ellie Van Tassell and Malina Nino had four each and Aiyana Evans had two.

“It was a close game, and we started to miss shots in the fourth quarter,” Lodi coach Brandon Shea said. “Our girls battled, but (Placer) made their free throws at the end of the game, and we didn’t make shots. But the girls didn’t quit playing.” Frosh-soph

The Flames suffered their first loss of the year to fall to 5-1. Shelby Yarbrough led Lodi with nine points, Maddy Ridgway had eight, Calista Morita had five, Ashley Vasquez had four and Halle Faulkner and Isabella Fugazi had two each. Fugazi added six rebounds, Ridgway had five boards and two blocks, Vasquez had six steals and Morita had four steals. Freshmen

Ashlee Toy led the Flames with seven points in Tuesday’s loss, which featured 31 Lodi turnovers.

Liberty Ranch 71, Lathrop 53

After playing to a three-point lead at halftime, the Hawks pulled away, outscoring Lathrop 38-23 in the second half.

Corey Potthoff led Liberty Ranch (4-2) with 17 points, followed by Jalen Patterson (16), Chandler Garcia (10), Jaime Gonzalez (10) and Chris Fielding (eight).

On Thursday, the Hawks open the Cosumnes Oaks Tournament against defending state Division III champion Manteca.

Lodi vs. Franklin

In three matches Tuesday, Lodi’s recorded three wins, all by fall, from Julio Levintini (132-pounds), Caleb Byrd (170) and Brando Jiminez (182).

Correction In Tuesday’s issue of the high school girls basketball preview, Lodi High girls basketball player, senior guard Alexa Brand had surgery on her knee last seasson, not senior center Aubrey Andrews.

Another Flames guard in sophomore Marissa Fabian was promoted to last year’s varsity girls squad, making this season her second on the varsity squad. Lodi sophomore guard Ellie Van Tassel was left out of the preview.

In Tuesday’s local scene, some frosh-soph soccer scores were incorrect — Lodi’s girls went 3-0-1, beating Sonora 8-0, Turlock 2-1, Kimball 3-0 and tying Gregori 0-0. The Flames finished second in the tournament.
