IN SPORTS: FLAMES WIN IN NON-LEAGUE GAME

Lodi High’s boys basketball team jumped out to a big lead and cruised to a 66-42 win over Pacheco High out of Los Banos on Wednesday.

Nathan Foster hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter as the Flames mounted a 21-3 lead. Foster finished with 14 points and Chase Shafter added 13.

“We just played some stellar defense,” Lodi coach Dave Nutting said. “Best we’ve played all year, and we are getting better each game.”

A.J. Castaneto added seven points for Lodi (3-6), followed by Matthew Nickel and John Durham with six each, Jaylin Reed and Jordan Van Ness with five each and Raees Khan and Jake Yarbrough with four each.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jason Myers had 14 points in Wednesday’s loss, along with eight from Joey Padilla, six each from Colton Stout and Nathan Shoup, three from Justin Ozimy and two from Luis Perez. Freshmen

Ethan Bronson led the Flames with 12 points in Wednesday’s win, with David King adding six points and seven rebounds. Also scoring were Julius Latteri (five), Richie Biegler (five), Andreas Pappas (four), Brady Pike (four), Daniel Watt (three) and two each from Kobe Linson, Jace Haro and Trevor Jackson.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Tigers completed a three-level sweep on Tuesday, with Anessa Spradley scoring 25 points in the varsity game. Dallas Orvick added 12.

Ashley Kirbyson led the Hawks with 13 points in Wednesday’s loss, along with seven from Tori Azevedo, six from Allison Huynh, five from Anjolina Garcia, three each from Isabel Moore and Kloey Calkins and two each from Giovanna Parino, Carson Lawton and Celina Maberto. Frosh-soph

Simon Medeiros had 10 points and 10 steals in Tokay’s win on Tuesday, to go with eight points and 16 rebounds from Jessica Saldana.

Also scoring were Madison Gonzales with seven, Marybella Hernandez with five, Jasmine Quezada with two and Stephanie Rodriguez with one. Freshmen

Aniyah Dean had nine points in Tuesday’s win, along with six from Mikaela Algoso and four from Jackie Enciso.

Varsity

Leo Soto booted a penalty kick with two minutes left in Wednesday’s non-league game for Liberty Ranch (5-3-2).

The Hawks scored their first goal five minutes into the game by Steven Richter, with an assist from Alexis Gamez. Stagg scored its only goal in the middle of the second half, on a free kick, before Soto made his shot into the net.

“We kept up the pressure,” said Liberty Ranch coach Andrew Fisher on his team’s game-winning goal.

Varsity

Sydney Fink and Isel Gutierrez each scored twice for the Hawks (6-0-3), with Karlie Hintze and Sarah Medina each adding one goal.

WRESTLING

Several pins helped the Tigers win on Wednesday, with Bryan Fitzhugh at 126, Trenton Edalgo at 138, Carter Bozovich at 160, Matt Cooper at 182 and Dylan Kranich at 195 all putting their opponents’ backs on the mat.

Carson Wood won by decision at 152 to help Tokay’s cause. Frosh-soph

With a number of forfeits for both sides and a few double-forfeits, Jason Ordinola was the only Tokay wrestler to actually have a match, which he won by pin.
