Disappointed in ugly Americans
Editor: It is so disappointing to see so many Americans become grotesque and ugly in character as if they were 3-year-old children throwing a hideous temper tantrum. The presidential inauguration is coming up next January. Andrea Bocelli, a wonderful man who happens to be blind and Jackie Evancho, a kind 16 year-old-girl, accepted invitations to perform at this event.
Unfortunately, Mr. Bocelli was bombarded with hateful death threats and promises that his livelihood would be taken from him if he dared attended and performed this national celebration. He was shocked that so many of his fans became haters and was forced to decline the invitation after proudly accepting it.
Jackie Evancho has also been threatened and has been told her life as a performer would end if she sings the national anthem at this event. Imagine the fear and stress this poor 16-yearold girl must have. She performed twice for President Obama without fear of reprisals from Obama's political enemies.
There are many performers who would like to celebrate this event but fear retaliation and an end to their career. I think it is reprehensible, narrow-minded and bigoted to sling hatred, animosity and mean-spirited verbal diarrhea that creates fear in the hearts and minds of good people like Jackie Evancho and Bocelli. These people should be ashamed. DARRELL BAUMBACH Acampo
