Mr. Fields shares historic events that occurred during his lifetime
Editor: The Dec. 29 column, “What are the 10 most historic events in your lifetime?” was well done and instigated a thoughtful contemplation. Thank you for the provocation.
As a member of the Silent Generation (1928-1945), my look back at my 72 years produced the following list of events with the greatest impacts on my family and country and world:
• End of World War II and Great Depression.
• Return of the Jewish people to their homeland after 2,000 years of worldwide dispersion, with their Jewish identity, i.e., culture, language and religion, intact.
• Re-establishment of Israel as a sovereign state with Jerusalem as its ancient rightful capital... May 14, 1948.
• Tremendous turmoil and upheaval and apostasy from within Christendom that rocks it to its core.
• Invention of the birth control pill and its immediate widespread usage. • No fault divorce. • Removal of Bible and prayer from the public sector, e.g., schools, courts and governments.
• Roe v. Wade legalization of abortion.
• Formation of European Union (EU).
• The “Black Hole” $20 trillion debt that has destroyed our American economy and is destabilizing the global economy.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
