Lodi salon celebrates five years of a childhood dream come true

- By Danielle Vaughn

Salon W on Elm Street in Lodi is celebrating five years of a childhood dream come true. Every since she was a little girl, Salon W owner Wendy Diaz knew she wanted to be a hair stylist. She always wanted her own salon but never thought it was possible. However, Jan. 1 marked the salon’s five-year anniversary and salon staff celebrated in December with a catered dinner and client appreciation day.

As a child, Diaz was always into fashion and glamour.

“I was just always fascinated by it since I was little. I would have my mom put rollers in my hair. I watched her friends do her hair. I was always the one that was doing the girls’ hair for school dances. I was just always into the fashion, the makeup, the hair,” Diaz said.

While attending college, Diaz realized she wanted to fulfill her childhood ambitions and decided to enroll in a beauty school. For two years she juggled school and raising three young children. After completing school, Diaz assisted top stylists in the Sacramento area and Orange County.

Diaz eventually moved back to the area and took a job at Chili’s, where she was able to build connections that helped her begin taking beauty clients in her home. Soon after, she began renting a booth at a local hair salon and when the opportunity to own her own salon came about see took it.

“It was the right timing,” Diaz said, explaining that she took the leap into being a salon owner because she loves to inspire and teach people.

“I wanted to give back to the girls that are in my shop. In this industry there are a lot of people willing to help you or willing to make you better so I just wanted to implement that in my shop.”

Diaz started off with a few assistants and now the salon has an eight-person staff.

Diaz said another reason she decided to open Salon W is because she wanted to bring an Aveda-affiliated salon to Lodi.

Aveda is an organic hair care line made of only plantbased ingredients. Being an Aveda salon with a family atmosphere is what makes Salon W stand out from the other salons in Lodi, Diaz said.

Salon W provides a wide range of hair and beauty services that Diaz say are reasonably priced.

“We’re not high, but we’re not super low. We’re right in the middle,” she said.

Services include cuts, coloring, extensions, scalp massages, hot oil treatments, deep conditioning and ombre, a hair-dying trend.

Diaz contributes her success to having a good connection with her client base and a talented team.
