Gonzaga’s win keeps it undefeated in D-I

SPOKANE, Wash. — Przemek Karnowski scored 17 points as No. 5 Gonzaga beat Loyola Marymount 93-55 on Thursday night to remain the nation’s only undefeated Division I basketball team.

Zach Collins scored 15 points and Silas Melson added 13 for Gonzaga (16-0, 4-0 West Coast), which has the nation’s longest winning streak at 16 games. Six Zags scored in double figures.

• No. 16 Arizona 91, Arizona St. 75 — At Tucson, Ariz.: Lauri Markkanen scored a career-high 30 points and Kadeem Allen added 18 for Arizona.

Arizona (16-2, 5-0 Pac-12) turned the first of two regular-season games in this rivalry into a laugher from the opening tip.

• Iowa 83, No. 17 Purdue 78 — At Iowa City, Iowa: Peter Jok scored 29 points with eight assists and six rebounds and Iowa rallied from a ninepoint halftime deficit.

Freshman Tyler Cook had 16 points for the Hawkeyes (11-7, 3-2 Big Ten), who beat a ranked team at home for the second time this season.

• No. 18 Wisconsin 89, Ohio St. 66 — At Madison, Wis.: Bronson Koenig scored 21 points as Wisconsin recovered from a poor shooting performanc­e four days earlier.

Wisconsin (14-3, 3-1 Big Ten) shot 39 percent from the field on Sunday, including just 2 of 14 from 3-point range, as Purdue snapped the Badgers’ ninegame winning streak.

• No. 20 Notre Dame 67, Miami 62 — At Coral Gables, Fla.: V.J. Beachem sank the go-ahead basket and made the clinching steal as Notre Dame rallied from a four-point deficit in the final 2 1/2 minutes.

The Fighting Irish (15-2, 4-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) outscored Miami 10-1 down the stretch to earn their sixth straight victory. Their four league wins have been by a total of 18 points.

• No. 22 Cincinnati 66, SMU 64 — At Cincinnati: Troy Caupain scored 16 points and blunted SMU’s comeback.

The Bearcats (14-2, 4-0) won a matchup of the last two unbeaten teams in American Athletic Conference play, taking their seventh straight game overall. Gary Clark led Cincinnati with 18 points, including two 3s that matched his career high.

• Utah 86, No. 25 USC 64 — Devon Daniels scored 17 points and Utah earned its first win against a ranked team this season.

• Sacramento St. 88, Southern Utah 83 — At Cedar City, Utah: Nick Hornsby scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Sacramento State ended an 11-game road losing streak with an 88-83 win over Southern Utah on Thursday night.

Marcus Graves and Izayah Mauriohooh­o-Le’afa added 16 points apiece for the Hornets (4-11, 1-3 Big Sky Conference).

Sacramento State led by 16 in the first half and was up 44-38 at the break. The Thunderbir­ds were within three with 6:45 to play but a 3-pointer by Mauriohooh­o-Le’afa with 2:24 had the Hornets up 79-69. After the T-Birds got it to four with 1:26 to play, Mauriohooh­o-Le’afa made two free throws and Hornsby four in the last 69 seconds.

Women

• Syracuse 85, No. 23 North Carolina State 75 — At Syracuse, N.Y.: Alexis Peterson scored 28 of her school-record 45 points in the second half and Syracuse beat North Carolina State.

Peterson had eight points as the Orange scored the first 13 points of the fourth quarter, erasing an eight-point deficit. Her 3-pointer tied it at 62 and she made another 3 to put Syracuse up for good.

• No. 4 Mississipp­i State 82, Florida 49 — At Starkville, Miss.: Teaira McCowan scored a career-high 25 points, Victoria Vivians added 21 and Mississipp­i State cruised past Florida.

The 6-foot-7 McCowan made her first 12 shots from the field before finally missing in the fourth quarter. She finished 12 of 13 and added five rebounds and two blocked shots.

• No. 5 South Carolina 66, Georgia 63 — At Columbia, S.C.: Bianca Cuevas-Moore had a career-high 25 points and South Carolina held off Georgia without injured All-American A’ja Wilson.

• No. 6 Notre Dame 86, Pittsburgh 54 — At South Bend, Ind.: Arike Ogunbowale matched her career high with five 3-pointers and scored 19 points to help Notre Dame rout Pittsburgh.

• No. 7 Florida State 72, No. 9 Louisville 65 — At Tallahasse­e, Fla.: Shakayla Thomas scored four of her 24 points during a key fourth-period run and Florida State rallied to beat Louisville.

• No. 22 Duke 70, North Carolina 58 — At Durham, N.C.: Leaonna Odom had 15 points and Duke outscored North Carolina 18-4 in the second quarter.
