JULIA CASTELANELLI SMITH

-

1921 – 2017

Julia Castelanelli Smith was born September 4, 1921 in Lodi, CA. She passed away peacefully on January 7, 2017 in Stockton, CA. at the age of 95. Julia was a lifetime member of the Catholic Church having been baptized and confirmed at St. Anne’s in Lodi and was a graduate of Lodi High School (class of 40). She grew up on the family farm before moving to the Bay Area. Julia enjoyed cooking, gardening and loved to travel. Being adventuresome and traveling alone, she was the first of her generation to visit her parent’s village in Bianzone, Italy. This motivated many others to follow in her footsteps which helped them to re-connect with their Italian relatives. She also loved the outdoors, living 35 years in Colorado before moving back to the Lodi area. Her cheerful spirit will be sorely missed at the family’s annual Christmas and Easter celebrations.

Julia is survived by her daughter Linda Bedini and son-in-law Clyde Coleman of Sunnyvale, and sisters; Victoria Gribaudo of Acampo (her twin) and Mary Kaehler of Lodi, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas K Smith and her siblings: Eliso Castelanelli, Inez Baciocco, Lawrence Castelanelli, Bert Castelanelli, and Rita Dragoo.
