Warriors, Hawks tie in soccer title game rematch
In a rematch of last year’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division I boys soccer championship game, Galt High and Liberty Ranch opened Sierra Valley Conference play with a 1-1 tie.
It was the first non-win for Galt (8-0-1), which won that game in late 2015 before the section switched both boys and girls soccer to the winter season.
Liberty Ranch (7-3-3) scored its goal with about 10 minutes left to play when Steven Richter put a free kick into the bottom left corner from about 25 yards out. Edwin Cisneros finished with eight saves for the Hawks, Mason Ginni made a difference on defense and Mark Vasquez helped control the middle.
Galt’s Davian Marquez scored in the first half on an Adrian Copado assist. Marco Ortiz finished with seven saves for Galt.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Elliot High’s boys basketball team continued rolling through Central California Athletic Alliance play with Friday’s victory.
Jimmy Beltz led the Eagles with 26 points, including five 3-pointers, followed by Jalen Valverde with 20 points and eight assists, Nate Bond with 16 points, Nick Figueroa with nine, Onkar Sidhu with eight, Giovanni Bulleri with seven and Cody Doell with two.
Elliot (12-4, 4-0 CCAA) is back in action with four road games next week, starting at Turlock Christian on Tuesday and ending with a game against Benicia at the Adidas NorCal Showdown on Saturday at Sheldon High.
Aidan Green had 21 points and 11 rebounds in Friday’s loss, which sent Tokay to 7-11 (0-1 TCAL).
Auston Dongon added 13 points, five steals, five rebounds and four assists, Jorge Hernandez had 10 points, Anam Akbar and Luka Jovic had four each and Max Starkovich had three. Frosh-Soph

Brady Pike had 12 points to lead the Flames in the loss to the Bulldogs, followed by Andreas Pappas (5), Logan Stout (4), Ethan Bronson (4), Kobe Linson (3) and Jace Haro (2).

Lauren Craig scored in the 31st minute on a Stevie Jones assist, and Ella Parish scored in the 39th minute on a Kaitlyn Campbell assist, but the Flames gave up a 2-1 halftime lead in Friday’s tie.
Yvette Marthe finished with 11 saves for Lodi, while Mia Jiminez and Andrea Becerra played solid games in the midfield.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Anjolina Garcia led the Hawks (10-8) with 10 points in Friday’s cross-town victory, along with seven from Ashley Kirbyson, six from Olivia Klotz, five from Giovanna Parino, four each from Briley Jordet, Isabel Moore and Victoria Lambert, and two each from Lakota Delgao, Celina Maberto and Kloey Calkins.
Amy Hebenstreich and Lily McCalla had four points each for Galt (1-14), along with two each from Zulema Corrales, Katy Proctor and Victoria Sokolova.
Charis Guerzo was the leading scorer for Elliot Christian (0-2 in the CCAA, 2-7) in Friday’s CCAA road game in Stockton with eight points.
