Flames bounce back, beat Lincoln

Lodi High’s boys soccer team improved to 1-1 in the Tri-City Athletic League and 3-4 overall with Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Lincoln High.

Cesar Calderon scored once and assisted on the other, the game-winner from Sergio Gomez in the 74th minute. Tyler McBee assisted on Calderon’s goal.

Defensivel­y, Adrian Vargas, Guillermo Baron and Carlos Rodriguez helped the Flames hold Lincoln back, while Alex Oseguera and Luis Sandoval played well up top. The Flames host West on Thursday.

WRESTLING

With a small Rams squad coming to town, only five matches were wrestled, with Lodi winning the rest by forfeit in a TCAL match at The Inferno. Killian Deyarmon won his 113-pound match by pin. Frosh-soph

Nathan Plath, Ignacio Alvarado and Darrius Hart won their matches by pin, while Brando Jimenez won by decision.

BOYS BASKETBALL Varsity

Corey Potthoff helped ensure the Hawks improved to 2-0 in the Sierra Valley Conference with 27 points in Tuesday’s victory.

Jalen Patterson added 21 points, and Chandler Garcia had 16 as Liberty Ranch outscored Rosemont every quarter until the fourth.

In the battle of the Eagles in Tuesday’s Central California Athletic Alliance game in Turlock, Elliot (5-0 in the CCAA, 13-4) used a full-court press in the second quarter to hold the host Eagles to two points that led to the win. Elliot led 40-11 at halftime.

“We wore them out,” said Elliot Christian coach Jason Hitt. “We got some nice steals for some buckets.”

Four Elliot players scored in 16 points each; Onkar Sidhu, Jimmy Beltz and Jalen Valverde. Sidhu also had 10 rebounds and Valverde seven assists.

Nick Figueroa and Nate Bond had six points each for Elliot. Giovanni Bulleri had three points, and Alexander Pinasco and Amari Jacobs had two points each.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Monica Valenzuela had eight points and Ellie Van Tassell had seven as turnovers proved costly in Tuesday’s TCAL game in Stockton.

Alaina Gravenkamp and Alexa Brand had five points each, Alexis Acosta had four and Aiyana Evans had two. The Flames committed more than 30 turnovers.

“They create turnovers with their pressure, but we made a lot of bad passes,” Lodi coach Brandon Shea said.

Anessa Spradley scored 21 points for Tokay (0-1 in the TCAL, 6-10) in the league opener at The Jungle on Tuesday.

Tiger forward Katie Price was 5-of-6 from the free throw line, and finished with 15 points. Tokay guard Dallas Orvick had five points.

Charis Guerzo led the Eagles with 12 points and Kinsey Archer brought down eight rebounds, but Elliot fell to 0-3 in the CCAA.

Lexie Juelch added nine points, Tayton McCorstin had five and Joanne Butler had four. A change to man press led to a 10-0 run for Elliot in the second quarter, but the Eagles were too deep in the hole for a comeback. Frosh-soph

The Flames played solid defense, but couldn’t hit anything on the other end of the court and finished 6-for-62 from the floor.

Ashley Vasquez led Lodi (15-3, 1-1 TCAL) with six points, followed by Shelby Yarbrough with five, and Calista Morita, Maddy Ridgway and Isabella Fugazi with two each. Ridgway added 12 rebounds and five blocks, Faulkner had nine boards and Morita added six steals. Freshmen

The Flames notched 20 steals and forced 15 turnovers, but the Trojans were too much. Ashey Toy led Lodi with nine points, along with five steals and five rebounds, and Patricia Coffaro added seven points, four boards and three steals.

BOYS SOCCER Frosh-soph

Eduardo Guillen had two goals and two assists in Tuesday’s win, while goalkeeper­s Miguel Cervantes and Christian Valencia combined for three saves behind a solid back line of Alexis Ceja, Edwin Flores and Oscar Hernandez.

Jordan Baumback led the Tigers (7-0) with three goals, Sebastian Quiroz added two and assists went to Jose Gonzalez (two), Flores, Juan Gutierrez and Omar Angulo.

The Flames came back from two goals down to force the tie, with goals from Sam Eigenberge­r and Richard Herrera. Anthony Abundis and Sergio Sandoval tallied assists, and Elwin Ramirez and Edgar Lopez played well on defense. Eddie Sandoval made a mark in the midfield.
