GLENN COUNTY WEST

-

Glenn County West passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, on New Year’s Day 2017. He was born December 21, 1919 in Lodi to Glenn and Cliffie Keyes West. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Meta Daniels; her daughter, Gail Ann; his nephew, Robert Paris Jr. and his former wife, Barbara West.

Glenn was quite the educated man. He entered UC Berkeley with a swimming scholarship and after graduation, served in the Army Air Corps as a navigator in World War II. Upon his return, Glenn went on to earn a Juris Doctorate from UC Hastings College of Law in San Francisco and a Master’s Degree from Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. He transitioned into business by managing a Buick Dealership in Camden, NY. He was then persuaded by a good friend to teach high school in Oneida, NY, and was later awarded a Fulbright grant through Columbia University to participate in the Teacher Education program in East Africa in 1967, and was placed at the Uganda College of Commerce in Kampala, Uganda for two years. He might have stayed forever as he loved Africa, but when Idi Amin suggested he leave for his safety, he packed up quickly and headed home.

Upon his return to the USA, he came back to Oneida and then to Saratoga Springs, NY where he taught in the Education Department at Skidmore College in the early 70’s. He moved back to Lodi in 1972 and worked using his law background to do estate planning for Roy O. Williams at New York Life Insurance Company. It was there that he met his soul mate, LouAnn, and they were married on 1-22-1974. Glenn spent the rest of his career in the life insurance business and was affiliated with Brusa Insurance Services at his death.

He is survived by his wife of almost 43 years, LouAnn, his sister, Jane Paris (Bob), sister-in-law, Patricia Busher, daughters Linda Crepeau (Bob), Sherry West, Nancy West-Brake (Richard) Kristina Holdren (Clay), nephews Eric Paris (Kari), Rob Busher, Ross Busher and nieces, Krista Torpey (Dick) and Margaret Harris (Ken). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and their families.

The family would like to thank Dr. Guido Abellera for his friendship and care of Glenn, Lester Fleming for his support and our many friends who have enriched his life, especially the Fantasy Football group and his racetrack buddies.

At Glenn’s request in lieu of a formal funeral, there will be a mass to celebrate his life on January 28th at 1:00PM at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, 2544 Plymouth Rd in Stockton followed by a gathering at 966 Oxford Way in Stockton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Lodi Partners Program (Lodi Police Dept.) 215 W. Elm, Lodi Ca 95240 or the Lodi Kiwanis Club Education Fund, P. O. Box 761, Lodi, Ca 95241.

Glenn did have an amazing life. He just had the greatest attitude and faced life’s challenges as minor bumps in the road. He touched many lives and will be missed.
