HELEN ANN (HAYNIE) PETERSEN

-

Helen Ann (Haynie) Petersen, 96 passed away on December 30, 2016. Helen was born in Willits, California on February 27, 1920 to Murray Haynie and Anna May (Adams) Haynie. She lived in Lodi since the late 1990’s residing at The Vintage for over 15 years and at The Ashley Place since March, 2016.

Helen moved to Mills Valley in early childhood and graduated from Tamalpais High School in 1938. She did some fashion modeling at the Deb Shop in San Francisco and was in a beauty contest there. She also did some modeling for professional photography. When asked to make a test film by a Hollywood agent, she declined as she was engaged to the love of her life, Ralph Petersen. They were married on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1940 and had a 50th Anniversary on Mother’s Day 1990. Helen and Ralph had over 54 years together and loved every minute of it.

She loved to be with friends and family, and she was loved by many over her lifetime. During World War II, she and her husband moved to Stockton with their only child. She was a homemaker taking jobs only when necessary. During the war she did clerical work at the Pollacks Ship Yards in Stockton. The 1940’s pictures of Helen showed her desire to always have a flower in her hair. She gave up flowers only for hats. A flower in her hair was her own personal signature, and she wore them well and was always recognized as “the pretty lady with a flower in her hair”, by friends and acquaintances.

Affectionately she was Hilo to her grandson and his friends, and of course to her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Ann Hatterle (Roland) and grandson Kurt Vaughn Hatterle (Michelle). She also has a nephew and nieces as well as many grand nephews, and grand nieces in the family. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two sisters Merle and Donna Jean. She lost many of her friends but never forgot anyone. Helen came from a long line of writers, and as such - she too loved to write poetry or short stories.

There will be a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM on Saturday January 21, 2017 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 701 S. Pleasant Ave., Lodi. Following the service everyone is invited to join the Hatterle Family at their home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s or Vitas’ Hospice at 16956 S.
